Luxury yachts and other myths: How Republican lawmakers echo Russian propaganda
NBC ^ | 14 Apr 2024 | Dan De Luce and Syedah Asghar

Posted on 04/14/2024 4:08:47 AM PDT by Chad C. Mulligan

Two senior Republican lawmakers, the chairs of the House Intelligence and Foreign Affairs committees, say their colleagues are echoing Russian state propaganda against Ukraine.

Researchers who study disinformation say Reps. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, and Michael McCaul, R-Texas, are merely acknowledging what has been clear for some time: Russian propaganda aimed at undermining U.S. and European support for Ukraine has steadily seeped into America’s political conversation over the past decade, taking on a life of its own.

McCaul, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Puck News he thinks “Russian propaganda has made its way into the United States, unfortunately, and it’s infected a good chunk of my party’s base.”

Turner, chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, told CNN that anti-Ukraine messages from Russia are “being uttered on the House floor.”

*snip*

Russia, in keeping with traditional propaganda techniques, seeks to make its case and tarnish Ukraine through a mixture of outright falsehoods, half-truths, inferences or simply amplifying and promoting arguments already being made by American or European commentators and politicians, researchers say.

The propaganda is sometimes spread covertly, through fake online accounts, or openly by Russian officials and state media. As a result, the origin of some allegations or criticisms is often opaque, especially when a certain accusation or perception has gained wide acceptance, leaving no clear fingerprints.

So now you have gone full communist and accuse Americans who feel they owe the Ukrainians nothing (because we do not) of malinformation, misinformation, and disinformation. You exude leftist, spiritual pus.

Just because you want no aid going to Ukraine doesn’t mean that misinformation and disinformation does not exist

The spread of the yacht and mansion stories is just a couple of examples

Here on FR those stories spread like wildfire even though the stories were easily proved false

The issue is strategic. Should the United States be entangled in wars across the planet? Is it the obligation of the American taxpayer to defend Ukraine and the European Union nations? If so, what is the justification?

The founding fathers were very clear on this issue. George Washington, in his farewell address, warned future generations not to get entangled in foreign alliances and specifically not to get involved in European wars. The founders, in the Constitution, did not give the president the power to involve the country in foreign wars. That power resides with Congress and since WWII the requirement that Congress declare war has been usurped unconstitutionally by several occupants of the White House. As a result nearly 100,000 US soldiers have been killed in unconstitutional wars since 1945 and trillions of US taxpayer money has been spent. What do we have to show for this shedding of blood and expense tot the taxpayer?

Meanwhile, those same presidents, and Congress, have refused to defend the US borders from actual invasions of the homeland in which millions of people have resettled inside the homeland. As a result US citizens are actually being killed in the thousands every year by these illegal invaders, social services are overwhelmed in many localities, and many lives are begin destroyed by a fentanyl epidemic resulting from criminal cartels operating across the border.

If this invasion of the homeland continues, the social fabric, and economy of the United States will collapse. Anyone with common sense, eyes, and a brain can see evidence of the destruction of the country daily. This is not “Putin propaganda” or “Russian disinformation”. This is reality. This is the most important issue facing we the people.

Oh but if Putin gets his way in Ukraine, Russia will take over Europe. The dominoes will fall! Well, we heard the same message in the 1960’s from President Johnson and the foreign policy establishment. By 1974 the same bureaucrats and politicians who put us through the Vietnam War decide to cut and run from Vietnam. The dominoes did not fall.

As for saving Western Europe from the Russians, Western Europe has already chosen its fate. The Western European nations will be Islamic states by 2050. It is a demographic destiny. Look at London today to see where the EU and Great Britain will be by 2050.

If the United States continues on its current path, it will not matter to our grandchildren and great grandchildren if Russia conquers Ukraine or Iran conquers Israel. Our nation is collapsing from bad policies and lawlessness. Pouring billions into Ukraine and Israel will only make the economic day of reckoning for the US, and the accompanying collapse, come faster.

Ukraine is a dictatorship. Zelensky has banned political opposition and elections. The press is heavily censored. Religion is oppressed. I hear the pro Ukraine voices say Putin is an evil dictator and he must be stopped. Why should the United States be supporting one tyrannical government in a fight with another? If Ukraine is so critical to Europe, the wealthy European nations should gladly pony up the billions needed to prop up the dictator in Ukraine and even shed the blood of their youth. This isn’t our fight any more than involving ourselves in a civil war in Vietnam was our fight in the 1960’s. Our fight is along the borders of the lower 48 state and we are not dealing with it.

When I read leftist comments I correctly surmise that the commentator is a leftist. Every Zeeper is a radical leftist snake.

So is it true that Zelinsky bought a $20 million house from the Royal family in Great Britain? If so we are definitely being scammed. With respect to NBC, they are proven liars.

Putrid is a Stalin wannabe. Once he conquers Ukraine he will attack the baltics and Eastern Europe

Russian commentator on Russian state TV

QUOTE “I want the Russian empire with Alaska, Hawaii, California, Finland and Poland. Although Poland and Finland are so stinky, I’m not sure, to be honest.”

“We’ll clean them.” (Genocide anyone?)

“Russian propagandists dream about their new world order. And you know what? They mean it.

“Pouring billions into Ukraine and Israel will only make the economic day of reckoning for the US, and the accompanying collapse, come faster.”

You have that right. My #1 concern by now....by far ..... is the invasion at our southern border. My #1 question is WHY nothing is being done about it.

--- "If they think too much Russian propaganda has 'seeped into the US', they must be absolutely flabbergasted at the level of US propaganda that has seeped into the US."

The NBC article dated 14 Apr 2024 fails to recall the 13 July 2023 propaganda which showed that this Ukraine-Russia war was over.

Biden wraps European trip, declares Putin's "already lost the war" in Ukraine CBS News, 13 July 2023
Since Biden said it last July, then the war was over. Yup.

But then again about a month ago, the poster of this NBC article also told us, "anybody can claim anything...."
