The shooting of a bicyclist along a Lancaster County road in March in a road dispute was justified, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday.
The shooting was reported about 4:20 p.m. on March 13, on Fruitville Pike near the intersection with Delp Road in Manheim Township, the DA’s office said.
On that day, Robin Megill, 33, of Lancaster, was riding a bike on Fruitville Pike in the lane of travel with multiple vehicles backed up.
The driver directly behind Megill beeped their horn, police said, prompting Megill to stop in the middle of the roadway with no traffic in front of him. His actions halted the line of traffic behind him on Fruitville Pike.
“Eventually Megill moved to the right side of the roadway,” police said. “Multiple vehicles passed him and then stopped at a red light at Delp Road. Megill chased the lead vehicle, visibly pedaling uphill to catch a vehicle that beeped at him. Megill forcefully flung the front passenger door of the vehicle open and moved toward the interior of the vehicle immediately prior to being struck by a single bullet”
Megill was hit in the torso from the handgun, the DA’s office said. The driver then pulled over and called 911, according to the press release.
The DA’s office concluded the driver was justified in their use of deadly force specifically because Megill was “illegally and forcefully entering an occupied vehicle.” The driver was legally carrying the handgun and will not face any charges, the DA’s office said.
Megill, who is expected to make a full recovery, was charged with a summary violation of disorderly conduct in connection with the incident. His preliminary hearing had not been scheduled as of Friday.
You can ride in my truck with me...I'll keep you in the glove compartment. When I get in a tense situation, I'll pull you out and you can tell me the immediate future...let me know if the perp's got a weapon or not, and whether they're gonna use it on me...or not. Then I'll know how to react.
Also...how's Skinny Minute gonna do in the fifth at Belmont? Win, place or show?
He was headed up the use of force continuum which was halted by superior force."
"...but how in the world are you justified to shoot him??”
There wasn't a picture of the perp. Maybe the driver was in fear of "contracting AIDS"...
Oh you must live a sheltered life my friend.
Here are some before and after pictures of Mary Kline, 54, who had the unfortunate experience of being beaten by a young Negro male. Note, he used his fists to do this much damage.
Fractued jaw, broken teeth, and so on.
"TIME how long it would take for someone to open your door & enter your vehicle & plunge a knife in your neck."
Yes, don’t eff with people. This is a textbook example of eff around and find out.
"...shooting was reported about 4:20 p.m. on March 13, on Fruitville Pike..."
Was this "Drive time"? Was there a "line of traffic" behind "Sammy Spandex"? Was he/she a traffic hazard?
a better question is, was he on the bike when he was shot?
The driver felt that the cyclist had a duty to get out of the way and so honked at him. The law gives all legal vehicles an equal right to be on the road. There is no duty to move fast and there is no duty to move out of the way of hurried drivers behind you. Automobile drivers think that the road exists only for cars. Not true, but they stupidly still act that way.
The cyclist stopped to block traffic when he was honked at. Please correct me, blocking traffic in this way is not legal.
The cyclist “ought” not to have survived his wounds. Driver “ought” to have used God’s caliber the 45ACP.
We feel that the world “ought” to be a certain way.
The cyclist feels he “ought” to be able to ride the roads without getting honked at.
The driver thinks that the slow-moving vehicle “ought” to get out of his way.
The road-raging man thinks he “ought” to be able to teach somebody a lesson.
Post #4 thinks you “ought” to be able to handle such things without shooting people.
Rather than act as if the world behaves as it “ought” to, why not pay attention to how it actually works?
For anyone who wishes to consider more I suggest three resources.
A book: “Why They Kill” by Richard Rhodes. This book will show you how and why people become killers and suggest what to do about it.
A website: nononsenseselfdefense.org by Marc MacYoung. You will not like what he says about crime, violence and self-defense, but you better read it if you want to AVOID things.
A YouTube Channel: armedattorneys by Walker Taylor Law. Their tubes about road rage are very well done.
He was not in the possession of a deadly weapon.
~~~~~
Nobody is forced to endure a physical beatdown. Deadly force is justified.
really??? please...
You are correct, sir...”ought” should’ve played a part in this situation.
Double ought.
mfish13 has disappeared he shook up the masses.
PA law:
§ 5507. Obstructing highways and other public passages.
(a) Obstructing.—A person, who, having no legal privilege to do so, intentionally or recklessly obstructs any highway, railroad track or public utility right-of-way, sidewalk, navigable waters, other public passage, whether alone or with others, commits a summary offense, or, in case he persists after warning by a law officer, a misdemeanor of the third degree.
I submit to you again, A FIST IS A DEADLY WEAPON!
Are you now going to tell me this man had no hands?
According to the FBI (if you want to believe anything they say)there were 665 murders committed using HANDS/FISTS/FEET committed in 2022.
You can whine about how unfair it was to shoot this person who was exhibiting definite AGGRESSION when he JERKED the drivers door open but you have no idea what the aggressors intent was.
He might have JUST wanted to pull the driver out and STOMP HIS HEAD INTO THE PAVEMENT.
Grow up and go find yourself a set of balls, learn to defend your life and the lives of your loved ones.
