Lol, the IRS will never come close to hiring 87K new agents. Their target for this year was about 4,000, they’ve hired less than 300.

Any new graduate is likely being hired by large/medium accounting firms. The IRS is hiring at GS-7 levels, or about $45K per year, about 50% below the going private sector.

Then there’s the background checks and drug testing. Need I go on?

I’ve never understood the claim of “87k new agents.” There aren’t that many federal law enforcement agents if every agency was combined now.
