BEIJING—The extent of China's soil pollution, long guarded as a state secret, was laid out in an official report that confirmed deep-seated fears about contaminated farmland and the viability of the country's food supply.

Nearly one-fifth of the country's arable land is polluted, officials said in the report, shedding unexpected light on the scale of the problem—a legacy of China's three decades of breakneck economic growth and industrial expansion.

The Chinese are tearing up the earth to extract enough lithium, along with other toxic metals, for EVs.

“But EVs are environmentally friendly, not like those gas-guzzling ICE vehicles.”

This explains the sudden explosion of sympathetic articles about how China needs to import a large amount of food stuffs.

All of the elites are now scared that China will destabilize and take them with it.

It is best, IMO, to avoid eating any food sourced from mainland China.

There’s a guy at work from China. He won’t eat anything that was grown, fished or raised in China.

Up to about 10 years ago, I had a Taiwanese colleague with the same personal food-source policy.

“In his letter Senator Scott refers to these existing concerns. But he goes on to highlight “a severe public health concern over the quality and safety of garlic grown in foreign countries - most notably, garlic grown in Communist China”.

He refers to practices which, he says, have been “well documented” in online videos, cooking blogs and documentaries, including growing garlic in sewage.”

Back before the fall of the Soviet Union, environmentalists were concerned with actual pollution, i.e., chemical substances not found in nature that were released by man onto the land, water or air, and which cause illness in people and animals exposed to it.

After the fall of the Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain, it became obvious that the worst environmental pollution known to man could be found in all of the former communist countries. Proving that more government control results in more pollution.

So, environmentalists stopped caring about actual pollution and focused instead on carbon dioxide, a natural trace gas that is essential to the existence of all life on Earth. Why carbon dioxide? Because wealthy, capitalist countries produce more of it, while producing more of everything that anyone wants. What is the solution? Why more government control of course.

Garlic is easy to grow and essentially maintenance free. Very little bothers it.
