Many decades ago I read a short story that foresaw a future where Communism/leftism prevailed and Truman was put on trial for the ‘war crime’ of the atomic bombing Japan. Short stories from the 60s have become the reality I find myself living in.

I was merely commenting on the words coming out of Liz’s mouth. But then, perhaps more to your point, didn’t we use the weapons we had on hand to demoralize the civilian populations of Japan/Germany. Had we smart bombs and GPS during the war would we have not bombed civilian populations?
We destroyed Tokyo by 1000-plane raids dropping many thousands of incendiary bombs. Part of the point of the atomic bombs was, “You know we can put 1000 planes in the sky, look what one plane and one bomb can do to you.” There was no way the Japanese could know we didn’t have thousands of atomic bombs ready to go.
