I worked on double digits of campaigns for various offices in my lifetime.

I have never heard a candidate start out by saying “we are not planning on winning this”.

Not once.

If we did not win the campaign failed.

Everyone knew it.

All claims to the contrary were just spinning.

Newsweak doesn’t deal in facts. Find a source who isn’t dishonest and covering for Joe Biden.

You know who has bigger voter erosion? Nikki Haley, Chris Christie and Ron DeSantis.

The weather here in Wisconsin was terrible yesterday with heavy rain, sleet, and snow most of the day. Voting in my bright red district was extremely low and we have a completely open primary. The Democrats were out in force over some election integrity referendums which we won. If I had been a Democrat, I would have voted against the referendums and then crossed over to try and mess up the Republican ticket so that a pointless article like this one could be written to further derange the Trump-haters. As can be seen in this thread, several Never-Trumpers have taken the bait.

“The standards applied to President Trump were never applied to anyone else—ever.”

Every person who speaks well of Trump starts with ‘he’s not perfect’

I ask them where to find the rule in the constitution that demands the president to be perfect

And who is perfect? Jesus. That’s it

In any gathering of my extended family of Catholics raised by nice people who contributed to society, 1/3 are divorced some are addicted to one thing or another. Or many go to mass every week or ever, pretending that’s not a mortal sin (it is)

Some are obnoxious and rude certainly among the in laws

But Trump has to nm e perfect

I can’t think of any politician or big businessman- Trump’s peers- who is perfect. The vast majority of senators are wealthy -loaded- o a $200 k per year salary. How is that ok? It’s acceptable for these people and celebrities to divorce and re marry all the time or to fool around

How is that perfect?

People say Trump is crooked like I say my lawn is green but they have no evidence of that

There is none. He has never committed a crime

They just say he’s a criminal

I have a friend who says Trump is not Catholic so he needs to become Catholic. That’s not part of the job description but the demand is there anyway. She says Trump is awful. Same woman won’t shut up about how wonderful Elon musk is he’s saving the first amendment

There’s someone with an unstable marital situation and isn’t even necessarily loyal to the US. Where did he learn about the first amendment. Where did he ever say he wanted to save it

But Trump is the bad guy

I do not understand it. The democrats who hate him have a position. I get it

The conservatives who hate him I do not get it

They hate him for not being perfect

They lose logic

One otherwise sensible retired mil officer said Trump was terrible for not stepping aside for DeSantis.

I said DeSantis was not well liked and had every right to try to beat Trump in the race

No I was supposed to know that wasn’t sensible. Trump was supposed to be polite and step aside

Regardless that DeSantis was backed by anti constitutional billionaires who hate Trump

I do not get it

Trump would never be mean to me or any law abiding patriot. Ever. But I get treated with hatred from Obama Clinton’s and Biden. No one mentions how imperfect they are or how rude they are

There’s a clip of Obama kicking open the door at a press conference being asked questions from Americans he works for.

The MSM is at work setting the stage so that people will not question the more massive than ever vote fraud that is going to occur in the election. Massive numbers of Fraudulent registrations are already occurring. These will be used to flood the system with fake votes for democrats.

I remember back in 2008 when Songbird McCain was running, by the time my primary rolled around, the Republican nominee was already determined. So that left me free to vote for Ron Paul which I did proudly, along with 129,245 others.

Things like that happen when the nominee is already decided.

Then it’s OK to skip. Our primary is May 14. The only contest I know of us for US Congress. For some reason some guy is running against Andy Harris who is by far the best Congressman I’ve ever had. Member of Freedom Caucus, He does an hour of live radio Q&A every week, not a townhall on one Tuesday every six months at 1pm like most of them do.

“ Or many go to mass every week or ever, pretending that’s not a mortal sin (it is)”

??

I meant to say not many go to mass every week

It is a tenet of the Catholic Church to attend mass weekly on Sunday to not do so is grave sin

Those who don’t go to mass run around proclaiming how bad trump is

It’s insane

LOL

Trump won the most decisive primary for a non incumbent in history that I am aware of. This article is total nonsense.

To continue my post—I did work for a Congressional candidate who lost but later had a solid career in broadcasting.

Looking back you could try to claim that he didn’t care if he won or lost since it launched his career.

I was there as a close advisor—and I will tell you that loss hurt—hard.

His plan was to go to Congress.

What happened later was not part of any plan.

You think that Ron Paul, Lyndon Larouche, Duncan Hunter, Pat Buchannon, Marianne Williamson, and the 100s of people like that thought they were going to be President of the United States?

I have worked on lots of campaigns as well, the context here though is the vast numbers of Presidential candidates.

Each case is separate.

LaRouche was crazy so he probably thought he would be president—ditto for Marianne Williamson. :-)

I think Pat Buchanan thought he could win.

Ron Paul is probably the best argument for your view—but he was running to expose issues not for future employment.

The “stepping stone” argument is the one I have an issue with—serious campaigns are way too much blood sweat and tears to not care if you win.

Nikki was in it to win it imho.

Let us travel back in our time machine:

https://www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/archive/2024/01/nikki-haley-could-surprise-us/677091/

https://www.limaohio.com/columns/2023/02/16/s-e-cupp-dont-count-nikki-haley-out-she-could-win-it/

https://twitter.com/NikkiHaley/status/1660992748827074560

“We’re in it to win it.”

The candidates say this because their staff is in it to win it—and they better be as well.

If any of the candidates I worked for said anything different I and most of the staff would walk—immediately.

I’m not sure what date your calendar says, but Michigan was a few weeks ago. These results are from The 4 from last night. Only 1 state had an open primary yesterday. They were all after Haley dropped out. Yet she and the others still took around 20% of the vote.

There are 100s of these people, go back over the years and look at how many benefitted, big timers might get TV slots and the rest of their lives as go-to talking heads, the small timers enhance their lecture fees and newsletter sales, and everything in-between.

Some of the big names like Haley are running for the veep position, but if that fails they still benefit.

For Duncan Hunter it was to get his son into the family seat.

Why do you bother even posting something so obvious, do you think that even your gardener running for president is going to tell his supporters and the media that he is just goofing off to see if he can make some money off of it?
