Breitbart ^ | 04/02/2024 | JOHN NOLTE

Residents of Virginia Beach, one of the few areas in Virginia to choose Joe Biden for president in 2020, are upset over the construction of wind turbines.

Complaints range from noise and vibrations caused by the 24/7 construction project to the destruction of ocean views and possible negative effects on marine life.

On Wednesday, Virginia Beach residents met with Dominion Energy, the company installing 178 wind turbines 900 feet high across 15 miles of ocean. The local news outlet News 3 reported that after the meeting, residents still “have concerns regarding the construction noise, environmental damage, and ocean views.”

The complaints came down to…

Construction noise, which is 24/7 Construction vibration that some residents say cracked the walls in their homes Being able to see the turbines, even though they are 27 miles from shore Killing wildlife Dominion promised to “put quieter reverse alarms on the trucks, put up sound buffers in the area, and even installed a second device to monitor sound and vibrations.”

Fitting that the energy company installing them is named "Dominion".

Seems to be a lot of piling on about wind, turbines, mostly Nimby. I have never read anywhere where it hurts fish. Maybe birds. Noise, not unless you are living directly next to them. Views, sure. Personally, if I lived an area that had a steady breeze, I think it would be a no-brainer to have a wind turban to generate power. But I’ve seen them in summer is where there’s hardly any breeze, and they’re all sitting idle. Total waste of money, except that they probably got some taxpayer money to build them in the wrong places.

Hopefully there’s enough local opposition to stop this insanity.

These are the very same idiots that have been screaming “Ban Fossil Fuels.” Now these NIMBYs find fossil fuels may not be so bad.

And in 20 years, when the product lifespan is exhausted, who pays to remove them and every bit of evidence that they existed?

27 miles from shore?

Okay - they will probably be visible and be somewhat of an eyesore. But at that distance the homes aren’t experiencing any vibrations. Other than trucks and stuff operating on the beach.

I suspect they will have blinking red lights on top.

Ones I have seen in the desert do.

In the otherwise calm and dark horizon.

Each turbine is drilled 300 feet into the bedrock. They last ten years at best and are not recycled - just left there. Hundreds are needed and they absolutely destroy fish beds and breeding grounds, not to mention millions of birds are killed each year by the blades.

Close relative works on the waterfront in Va .Beach.

the wind turbines are all thats changed in the past few years and at least one a month they are dealing with dead beached sea mammals.

I doubt it was a change in the blue dye used in sno-cones causing whales and dolphins to keep beaching themselves suddenly...

fyi, I know a sub sonar ping can disable or kill a dolphin if close enough, subs dont side ping going in and out of the norfolk base.

Oh - good point. That would be obnoxious. Here in Washington state they have installed lots of wind mills on the otherwise beautiful hills along the highway passes. The first time I drove through there after dark I got disoriented by all of the red lights (I was sleepy...).
