Top US general said to lay out Washington’s proposed alternative to Rafah offensive — report
Times of Israel ^ | 31 March 2024 | TOI STAFF

A top US general laid out Washington’s proposal for an alternative to a ground IDF offensive sought by Israel in Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah during a recent conversation with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, Israel’s public broadcaster Kan reports tonight.

According to the report, Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, conveyed that the US would not “accept” mass civilian casualties in Rafah, given the toll of civilian deaths in north and central Gaza.

The report says Brown summed up Washington’s proposal which includes securing Gaza’s border with Egypt with technological advances to prevent the smuggling of weapons through the Philadelphi Corridor, the isolation of the city of Rafah and the launch of targeted raids, and the establishment of a joint control room to coordinate on the targeted operations.

The conversation occurred last week during a visit to Washington by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Kan reports.

Israel is intent on operating in Rafah, Hamas’s last stronghold in Gaza, to dismantle its last four battalions in the city. Washington and much of the Western world have signaled their opposition to the plan, amid mounting concern for over a million Gazans who have taken refuge in the city from fighting in other areas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Biden administration have been locked in a growing public spat over the potential ground operation in Rafah.

Last week, a plan to send a senior Israeli delegation to Washington to discuss a Rafah offensive was scrapped by Netanyahu after the US abstained from a UN Security Council vote on a resolution calling for a Gaza ceasefire, ensuring it would pass.

A US official then said the sides were working on a new date for the inter-agency meeting.

We’re just working really hard to make sure the Jews lose.

Probably most American Jews want Netanyahu to lose.

This is an embarrassment.

I suppose that failure for Israel to submit to Washington will mean a doubling down of attempts by the Deep State to institute regime change in Israel.

IDF needs to open that damned Egyptian border to permit the Fakestinian Arab “civilians” to return, repatriate home to Egypt. And yes, close the border against more weapons coming in.

The Egyptians are winning both ways. They export dangerous weapons to the terrorist Fakestinian murder gangsters. And they prevent, bar “civilian” Fakestinian Arabs from returning to their (most of them) Egypt. It is a semi-permeable border/membrane and it is working WRONG in both directions. It needs to be made porous for people going South and it needs to be made solid for weapons going north.

The Israeli’s should give GAZA back to Egypt. Then Egypt can be responsible for their activities. Any attack would then be an act of war by Egypt. Problem is that Egypt won’t take GAZA back, and I can’t blame them. No rational government would want to be responsible for the citizens of GAZA’s actions, which inevitably will be more terrorist activity, and threaten entire nations.

The only solution that doesn’t involve Genocide by either side is moving the people of GAZA to Iran, where they can be embraced by the people that have supported them and their terrorism and hate. Perhaps, Israel and Egypt could agree to make GAZA a park for citizens of both nations to enjoy.

The West Bank might get the point.

The last part of the idea - “establishment of a joint control room to coordinate on the targeted operations” (US control of military operations via the joint control room), is the worst element of the idea, because with Biden’s cabal you know too much of that control will be not military minded but political, governed by Biden’s needd to placate the pro-Hamas wing of his party.

It must be a CFR or Brookings plan. The Pentagon is too damned dumb to come up with something on its own.

I reckon it’s not time for God to step-in yet. But, when he does, Biden’s not going to be the only one soiling himself! I mean, leave Israel alone and help-out where you can. But, they’ve got to annihilate Hamas. The powers of darkness appear to have overwhelmed this nation and now appear to want to finish-Israel-off!

I don’t recall Israel asking the “Joint Chiefs” what their opinion was. I don’t think there are many actual civilians there as they all seem to support Hamas and openly despise Jews. Do away with Gaza altogether. It is a failed nation. The so-called Palestinians have been a PITA as long as I can remember. Who says the current map is the final map?

A proposal from the same guys who didn’t see a Taliban offensive coming, and then completely botched the withdrawal.

I weep for Israel.

“. . . the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, conveyed that the US would not “accept” mass civilian casualties in Rafah . . .”

That is an interesting comment - the U.S. has accepted mass civilian casualties in Israel by terrorists.

Our woke military leaders are dirty, dirty, dirty and they put not only the U.S. at risk but the entire world.

Why is Israel waiting? Serious question. By waiting they give the World the illusion that it is in charge of Israel. By waiting the memory of October fades. Just level the place now and be done with it.

Civilian to Combatant casualties in Gaza are apparently the lowest of any war in history.

Let Israel keep doing its business.

Last I heard there were 4 battalions of Hamas troops in Rafah. There is no way to get them but to go in. They and their supplies are in hardened tunnels probably connected to every building

I’m not sure I want an AF general laying out an alternative plan for Rafah. This is an Infantry operation, and decidedly non-DEI in execution. It can’t be conducted at 30,000 feet.

The Egyptian military has battalions of troops, hundreds of tanks and the rest immediately on the border to prevent Hamas and its so-called civilians from entering Sinai. The Egyptians do NOT want any of the lot.

Weapons come in via tunnels and likely by ship to Biden’s new Hamas shipping port if it gets built.

Porous borders are only a ‘thing’ in the USA.
