Rep. Nancy Mace incorrectly claimed that crime is "skyrocketing" across the United States under President Joe Biden, prompting X (formerly Twitter) to issue a community note correcting her. That note was later removed by the platform.
"You're seeing, since Joe Biden took office, crime skyrocketing all across the country, and especially in big cities," Mace said in a campaign video posted to X on Saturday. "You see illegal immigrants coming in, beating up cops… You're seeing crime skyrocket."
But data from the FBI shows that crime decreased significantly in 2023, including a 13 percent decline in murder, a 6 percent decline in reported violent crime and a 4 percent decrease in reported property crime. "At some point in 2022 - at the end of 2022 or through 2023 - there was just a tipping point where violence started to fall and it just continued to fall," Jeff Asher, a crime analyst and co-founder of AH Datalytics, told NPR in February.

Here in New York City, Crime has become SO BAD that the governor has to deploy HUNDREDS of national guards to help secure the New York City subways in response to a surge in crime and safety concerns.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) and local law enforcement are generally responsible for maintaining public safety, but the decision to involve the National Guard was made due to the severity and urgency of the situation.
I’ve never seen this done before ( the only other times were the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and a gigantic natural disaster — Hurricane Sandy.

Are crime stats compiled when charged or when successfully prosecuted? Also, what happens when folks just stop reporting to FBI and other data gathering entities?
I’m sure all the major businesses leaving the cities did it because the cities are safe and prosperous.
Violent crimes remain elevated compared to 2019, the year prior to the COVID pandemic and racial justice protests of 2020. There were 24% more homicides during the first half of 2023 than during the first half of 2019 in the study cities. Property crime trends have been more mixed. There were fewer residential burglaries and larcenies and more nonresidential burglaries in the first half of 2023 than during the same period four years earlier. Motor vehicle thefts more than doubled (+104%), while drug offenses fell by 39%.

In WA, pretty much a participation ribbon and juice box for car thefts and burglaries, especially amongst juviniles who are not charged. It never hits the stats.
So guess who is doing the crime?

Right. Plus serious crimes are going into the records as misdemeanors. Remember that older NYC lady who was the victim of the knock-out game last week? She lost a couple of teeth in the attack. That certainly was a felonious assault.
Her assailant was booked on a misdemeanor, then released.
