The pilot of the cargo ship that knocked down a highway bridge into Baltimore Harbor had radioed for tugboat help and reported a power loss minutes earlier, federal safety officials say, citing new data from the freight's recorder.

NTSB's investigator in charge, Marcel Muise, said the recovered voyage data recorder (VDR) had helped them establish a timeline of events.
He said the ship had departed from Seagirt Marine Terminal at around 12:39am and had entered the Fort McHenry Channel at 1:07am, before "numerous audible alarms" were recorded on the audio from the ship's bridge at 1:24am.
At about the same time, the data stopped recording, though it resumed shortly after tapping into a redundant power source, Mr Muise said.
At 1:26am, the ship's pilot made a high frequency radio call for tugboats to assist the Dali in what Ms Homendy said was the first sign of needing help.
The pilot later dropped the port anchor and made another radio call at 1:27am, reporting the ship had lost all power and was approaching the bridge

I’m certainly no expert in ship navigation but I suspect “minutes” is hardly enough time for a tug to gain control of a 1000 foot fully loaded cargo ship.
The police did a really good job. They only had minutes of warning and mostly managed to close the bridge.
The pilot used a Dominion voting machine to decide what to do next. The pilot and the captain voted for go under bridge but the dominion machine flipped the votes to crash into bridge.
Yes, they did. And it was fortunate that it occurred at 1:30AM when the number of vehicles crossing was much lower.
You’re using the term “minutes” because you know the exact time when the ship hit the bridge. When the pilot called for a tug it was due to some kind of mechanical failure that compromised the ship. He didn’t necessarily know in advance exactly what was going to happen in the minutes ahead. He almost certainly would have called for the tug even if there was no bridge ahead over the channel.
However, this one is just a little too random or fluky and, given current world events, maybe not so out just of the blue.
We are enmeshed in very contentious wars in Ukraine and Israel and shipping is being attacked on a daily basis by terrorists in the Red Sea by Hamas sympathizers and in Ukraine and Russia.
The Ukraine is in the middle of en existential crisis due fall off Americans withdrawing support for the war effort.
And Russia has just experienced a horrific terrorist event that may have had NATO and/or CIA involvement
Several major bridges have destroyed by NATO weapons in the Ukraine war and lets not forget the Nordstream pipelines.
And now we find out that the black box data recorder's data has been corrupted and/ or not recorded.
Given the circumstances, one would have to be a complete moron not be suspicious that there is more to this than it just being a random accident, especially since this is closest port to the Capitol in Washington, DC that we have in the country/

You’re point about timing brings a thought to mind. If this was a planned operation, by some entity, to cause maximum damage/terror...why wasn’t it done at 8am? Similar to 9/11?

It may have been too late when the call was made. But I wouldn’t know. They made the call the moment they knew they needed help. It certainly helps investigators to know that the crew was alert, aware of their predicament, and making every effort to save the ship and avoid the bridge.
