Joseph I. Lieberman, the doggedly independent four-term U.S. senator from Connecticut who was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate on the national ticket of a major party, died March 27 in New York City. He was 82.
The cause was complications from a fall, his family said in a statement.

On March 17th, Lieberman slammed Schumer’s speech saying Israel needed a new leader: “’For a U.S. Senator, let alone a majority leader, let alone the highest-ranking Jewish elected official in Washington, to tell Israelis that it’s time to get rid of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu], that’s outrageous,’ Lieberman said in a Sunday interview with radio host John Catsimatidis on The Cats Roundtable on WABC 770 AM.”
Good man. He was an old fashioned liberal who loved his country.
Same here.
I hope his family isn’t planning on inviting Biden, and especially not to get up and speak. He’ll go off script, and make it all about himself...how he lost Beau fighting in Israel, or Beau fell to his death from the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Or he’ll keep looking at his watch, and go wandering aimlessly around.

bttt
Maybe Chuck You pushed him down the stairs.
Nah. FR started off with the name of "White Water Papers," I believe. There was a link for this site on Drudge's page. That's how I first found this site. Been here over 26 years. FR was geared more towards Slick Willie, and his impeachment. That's what the March for Justice in Washington, D.C. was about on November 1, 1998. That was a great time, with a lot of great speakers, and awesome fellow Freepers.
Rest In Peace, Joseph Lieberman.
Joe was stuck in Connecticut...in the northeast we were all stuck at home (or at work) so I had time to put together this parody song:
Oh the healthcare reform is frightful
Status quo is so delightful
And since there’s no vote sans Joe
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
The Dems don’t show signs of stopping
Our tax rates will soon be popping
Cancer screens will be cut real low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
If Joe finally leaves tonight
How he'll hate going out in the storm!
But if he would give up the fight
“’bama care” will bring no harm
The bill is slowly dying
Yet the left is still a-trying
But as long as there is no Joe
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Posted it as its own thread on here on that snowy Saturday night and by Sunday the views were in the quin-digits.
understood.
he wasn’t perfect.
nobody (present company excepted, of course) is.
Still, all we need to is compare him to Obammy, Biden, HilLIARy,Schumer....all Democrats and all (imho, anyway) 1000 times worse
After the 2000 hanging-chad fiasco, Freepers were protesting at V.P. Gore’s home on the grounds of the Naval Conservatory, holding signs that said: “Get out of Cheney’s house!”
sometimes going along just to get along is just as bad as doing evil.
Still have my Sore/Loserman t-shirt!
Still have my Sore/Loserman t-shirt!
"A gentleman, through and through"
Rest in peace, Sir.
He lost his 2006 Senate primary when the turnout was only about 10%. Lieberman ran in the general election as an Independent candidate and won reelection to the Senate, and remained an independent ever since.
Lieberman decided to retire at the end of his term, and was succeeded by Chris Murphy (D), who is still in the Senate.

Really? I came here during the Clinton years.
The one who died a few years ago was Lautenberg (D-NJ).
Prayers to his family!! He was the last Connecticut Democrat that I voted for. Connecticut Democrats like Joe Lieberman, Ela Grasso (her husband was a principal at my school), Tom Shanahan (a state representative in my hometown), Thomas O’Neil (not Tip, a state representative who was a bar owner), were Conservatives. Now, Connecticut Dems are liberal!
Last of the breed of reputable Dems.
