During an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) stated that while clearing the debris from Baltimore’s collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge from the harbor and then replacing the collapsed bridge will take time, “we can streamline it” compared to other projects and “cut through some red tape” that exists for other projects.
Cardin said, “It’s going to take time, we don’t know how long. The rescue missions will be completed pretty quickly, we expect that. We then go in to assess what we can do to remove the debris. And it’s not stable, so we have to make sure no one gets hurt in removing the debris. That will take some time. We’re not going to get that done overnight. It’s going to take some time. It may need heavy equipment. Fortunately, we have some heavy equipment in the region. So, it’ll take a bit of time to be able to assess what we can do to clear the channel, which is our first priority. Then replacing a bridge is going to take some time. I know that we can streamline it, cut through some red tape. But it’s still going to take some time.”

First challenge is to get that ship out of there before it sinks.
Has Peter buttplug weighed in on this to give his brilliant take yet? There are so many pictures shown under the word “inept” these days........
Congress should investigate whether a hunnel would be better. We have a tunnel under the Chesapeake at its mouth. So, cargo ships, warships and pleasure craft pose no risk. As unfortunate as disasters are, they are opportunities to consider options. We don’t have to rebuild what might have been the best option of some time in the past.
Hey Benny. Why don’t you RATS use all the slave labor you brought in across ELMO Opendoor’s fuggin’ “border” that you maggots gave him. It sure would be a lot cheaper.
Bosh.
Why not cut the red tape ALL projects face?
Demonicrat Senator Cardin said, “It’s going to take time... That will take some time... It’s going to take some time... So, it’ll take a bit of time... But it’s still going to take some time.”
At least he didn’t cackle afterwards.
This is when gov’t becomes fascist. Preferred projects (I-95 Bridge in Philly, Key Bridge in Baltimore) will be streamlined and fast tracked.
Watch all the environmental groups, unions, etc all get in line with what the Politburo wants in DC for this project.
Projects supported by conservatives (bypasses, border wall) will be slowed down, dragged through the courts, held up by unions, etc.
All this is controlled by the Swamp in DC.
The republican Party should do just what the Demonrats and their surr4ogates do, FILE a Thousands Lawsuits to FORCE them to live up to ALL Environmental regulations with NO EXCEPTIONS, Make it a 10 year project or longer and as wildly expensive as possible.
Quick, remove all evidence
So, IOW, he’s saying all those other regulations and ‘Red Tape’ are totally UNECESSARY..................
Yeah, ask Boston about that................
Quick act like we are doing something, act like we CARE, it’s an election year!!!!
Their Illegals can build a Wooden bridge just like they have in their home countries , it will make them feel at home
The bridge was the fazardous cargo route - a tunnel can’t replace it.
Perhaps a tunnel? I’ve been in the Detroit/Windsor tunnel (to Canada) under the Detroit River many times at almost a mile.
What’s the over under, five years? First and foremost, remove the existing structure and debris and open the port. And that is going to require some heavy de-assembly work and removal.
The most likely scenario is that all environmental review requirements will be waived as long as it’s an “in-kind” replacement and is not designed to carry more traffic than the bridge that has been destroyed.
The I-35W bridge collapse in Minnesota is likely to be a model for how this would be done. That bridge collapsed in early August 2007. I still have some photos from the site that I took 7-10 days later. The new bridge opened in September 2008.
Well, Senator, you and your perverse cohorts sure cut through the red tape on the use of the Senate Hearing Room, didn’t you?
