Rep. John Curtis (R-UT), who is running for Senate to replace retiring Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), said in 2017 that former President Donald Trump’s border wall carries “pent-up racism.”
Curtis is just one of the many candidates running to replace Romney. He was the mayor of Provo and considered himself a Democrat until 2006.
During an online debate in 2017, he said, when running for Congress, that hopes to continue then-President Donald Trump’s agenda.

There are currently 11 Republicans in the race.
Trent Staggs is a good conservative but lacks money and name recognition. Orrin Hatch’s kid jumped into the race somewhat recently; he has no legislative record to evaluate but he’s surely no hard-core conservative. State House Speaker Brad Wilson claims to be a conservative but is actually a total squish as is ex-congressman Curtis.
Wilson and Curtis have all the establishment funding and Hatch will probably get a bunch too.
Utah’s next senator is highly unlikely to be a conservative unless things change quite a bit between now and November. Utah is a solid *Republican* state; it is definitely not a *conservative* state and is becoming less so every day.
