WASHINGTON (TND) — In the wake of the deadly terror attack on a concert hall in the Moscow suburbs that killed at least 130 people, national security experts in Russia, the Middle East, Western Europe and the U.S. are focusing their concerns on the group claiming responsibility for the attack: ISIS-K.
Americans may recognize the name from the August 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, after the group took credit for the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport which killed 13 U.S. service members and around 170 Afghan civilians. However, it has been waging its own jihad in the region for nearly a decade.
The terrorist organization is a Central Asian branch of the original Islamic State (also variably known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or Iran and Syria) formed between 2014 and 2015 by disenfranchised al-Qaida and Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and Pakistan that sought more extreme tactics to fight non-Sunni Muslims. After accepting a delegation from the main Islamic State, then at the height of its power by holding vast tracts of Iraqi and Syrian land mass, that group of disaffected fighters formed a new branch.
ISIS-K seeks the restoration of a power base of the historic Greater Khorasan region of Central Asia that includes the entirety of modern Afghanistan as well as parts of Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which would feature an extremist implementation of sharia law and the kind of totalitarian theocracy carried out by their comrades in Iraq and Syria.
..........
However, as with the original Islamic State, the Khorasan branch seeks to carry out its jihad against Western powers as well in its goal to establish a "pure" -- i.e. Muslim-only -- global caliphate.

Second, from the comments: "I believe, the USA, Russia and China should join together to put an end to ISIS, the Taliban. Then the USA should come home and work on ending all these right wing HATE groups! Qanon, Proud boys and any others, should be scared, very scared!"
This fool is a liberal. And, like all liberals, will ignore terrorists living in America, but will use the inevitable terrorist attacks on American soil as an excuse to target "Christian nationalists", etc.
If ISIS was started by the CIA, and the CIA continues to fund and direct ISIS, then where does that put us?
Is there anyone left who still believes these terrorist groups came about on their own, and operate on their own?
The religion of evil should have been eradicated world-wide after 9-11.
But instead we have inept leadership that never learns the from the mistakes of the past.
[First, stupid American liberals (jorge busho and company)]
yep
Geesh! Everyone is being recruited to further this ridiculous CIA narrative. It’s truly amazing to behold how the media, CIA and their compliant, nodding saps line up to do their part.
There is NO WAY to live in peace with Muslims.
Their very existence requires you convert or die.....................
They are from hell itself and they need to be sent back there where they belong.
I wonder if that commie commentator would love being forced to live in a Marxist banana republic Iike North Korea 🇰🇵, Venezuela 🇻🇪 or Cuba 🇨🇺. I’m serious, I’ve had enough of these bullies and spoiled brats.
BLM-K.
ISIS-K….yeah, right. This whole ISIS thing is horse manure, the Moscow attack were not ISIS, they never surrender, always end up blowing themselves up with shouts of Ally Snackbar….
I am not buying the ISIS “ story”. It has already been revealed by Mercouris one of these terrorists fought in Ukraine against Ivan shortly ago.
This Moscow attack has Ukie ties.
The only groups who haven’t been credited with the Moscow attacks (so far) are the Unification Church and the Shriners.
Close the border and deport all illegals.
Since you don’t know who is prepared to carry out an attack, just get rid of them all.
ISIS was not started by the CIA, period. People should quit spouting such myths.
