In response to NASA’s report that a total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024, New York authorities are warning New Yorkers to be prepared.
In a recent press release by the New York state police, officials warned residents to be prepared for cellular disruptions, slow 9/11 response times, gridlocked traffic, and food/water demand during the upcoming total solar eclipse.
Also included in the press release was a list of suggestions calling for residents to stock up on food, water, and fuel.
The warning by New York state police comes as the department looks to learn from their responses to the 2017 solar eclipse.
Per New York State Police:
The New York State Police, in close collaboration with other state, local, and federal law enforcement, emergency services, and transportation agencies, has meticulously developed an emergency operation plan. Our unwavering goal is to provide a comprehensive and uniform presence, ensuring the safety of both visitors and residents as they experience and travel home from the eclipse. Members of the State Police will implement security measures appropriate for large gatherings and take all necessary actions to maintain order and smooth traffic flow.
Building on past experiences, the planning process for this event has been proactive, aiming to address potential impacts within Troop E. Our goal is to minimize any adverse effects associated with the large influx of visitors to the local area. This approach is based on the lessons learned from the 2017 solar eclipse, where some regions experienced a 100 percent increase in their population in the days leading up to and during the eclipse.

Why am I suddenly hearing of planned school closings for that date and counties declaring a state of emergency for April 8th. In the past, schools used the eclipse as a learning module but apparently no more. I'll adjust my tin-foil hat and I start fearing "they" have plans for that date.
It’s gonna be a long eclipse
Can you say manufactured crisis? 🙄
“So, what is up? We have had solar eclipses for centuries and I thought the fears that the world would end as a result was something of the 18th century.
Why am I suddenly hearing of planned school closings for that date and counties declaring a state of emergency for April 8th. “
Sounds like you didn’t read your article!
School closings make sense in areas where a high turnout of visitors is expected given the impact on bussing delays.
There’s several total solar eclipses around the World every year
If they disrupted electronics, it would’ve been big news already
This is more needless fear-mongering by a control-obsessed Media, just like Covid was
Ignore, and enjoy your regular lives!
A solar eclipse is not something new, so is someone up to no good with this?
“A solar eclipse is not something new, so is someone up to no good with this?”

I did. I still think it is a bunch of nonsense.
His brain had a total eclipse and it never ended.
“the large influx of visitors to the local area”
This is the problem.
I was sure this was from the Bee. “Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together...”
Your post does not relate to the concerns stated in the article.
I think the article is trying to say NYC will get extra-crowded by eclipse-seekers flocking in (because NYC is in the eclipse path), and those big crowds will cause all the disruptions ... so I interpreted it wrong in my first response
But, why would people flock to crowded (and pricey) NYC to watch it?
The eclipse path is 2000 miles long and 100 miles wide, so there’s lots of other open, uncrowded, cheaper areas to watch it from
So, the “needless fear-mongering” part stands ...
HUH, the NYS Police are saying this?
I’ve heard the sun has scheduled a MASSIVE CME aimed at earth just when the moon gets in the way.
This is the stupidest thing I’ve heard today. Don’t these idiots understand what a solar eclipse is?
Who wants to travel to a crime ridden city where you know in advance it is going to go dark?
Beats me. I have been through several eclipses. Glanced at them, thought “huh that’s kinda cool,” then went back to school/work (depending on the year). Didn’t notice any significant disruptions.
Just more mass hysteria being fueled by the LSM and libidiot politicians.
