Then I guess “To Kill a Mockingbird” was a flop.
As was “Glory.”
And “West Side Story.”
And “Do the Right Thing.”
And “American History X.”
And “A Raisin in the Sun.”
And “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.”
And “In the Heat of the Night.”
And “Cotton Comes to Harlem.”
And “Sounder.”
And “Malcolm X.”
And “Green Book.”
And “A Bronx Tale.”
And “The Color Purple.”
And “Monster’s Ball.”
And “12 Angry Men.”
And “Sergeant Rutledge.”
And “A Raisin in the Sun.”
And “Paris Blues.”
And “Mississippi Burning.”
And “Buck and the Preacher.”
And “Blazing Saddles.”
And “Cotton Club.”
And “A Soldier’s Story.”
And “School Daze.”
And “Amistad.”
And “Driving Miss Daisy.”
And “The Green Mile.”
And “Finding Forrester.”
And “Men of Honor.”
Nope, never in the history of Hollyweird has even a single movie about racism so much as broken even.
There is such a thing as subtlety versus beating viewers over the head. You list many great flicks... but maybe the horse has been beaten to death.
‘West Side Story’
Always a favorite of mine. Have you seen the re-make by Steven Spielberg?
I was blown away. So impressed. And the kids in the movie are all pretty much unknowns. Star-maker, for sure. I loved it...and I am always super-critical of re-makes.
Are you serious?????? Racism was not the plot!
Cotton Club did kind of flop.
