Senator Bernie Sanders is introducing legislation that would change working hours for millions of Americans.
Sanders, an independent senator representing Vermont, announced he plans to file a bill that would establish the 32-hour workweek as standard across the United States, while mandating that workers do not lose pay. In a press release on Wednesday, Sanders argued fewer working hours would be necessary to ensure recent technological advances, such as automation and artificial intelligence "benefit the working class, not just corporate CEOs and wealthy stockholders on Wall Street."

Vermont is teeming with old hippie whack jobs!
We are basically a carbon copy of Europe, a Euro style social democratic economy at this point.
When it comes to the left, the Europeans have copied many of our ideas (feminism for example), and we have copied many of their ideas (family leave after a birth).
The shorter work week has been a reality in Europe since the mid 80s.
It all started, in earnest in 1984, Germany, with a major trade union IGM: https://www.igmetall.de/ueber-uns/geschichte/der-kampf-um-die-35-stunden-woche (I actually remember this)
Back then, with high unemployment, the BS argument was used that by reducing the hours of the work week you could employ more people.
Not how it really works economically but the communist simply sees an economy as static, finite in volume, and where you create “social justice, equity” and have “solidarity” (commie terms) by having the government swoop in and slice the pie ever finer between people.
Of course the real way to do it is to think about how we can bake more pies, a supply side, free market, capitalist way of thinking.
(((If you want wealth, you focus on productivity per hour and total.))) That does not mean wealth distribution will be fair but any attempt by government to create fairness builds into the system inefficiencies and usually does little to actually address the issue. Highly socialist nations like France, Germany etc. still have poor, still have homeless... Wealth is directly correlated to productivity and playing games with the money supply simply causes inflation without a corresponding increase in wealth.

***When was the last time you have heard a Western socialist politician mention any policy that would increase productivity?
***When was the last time you even hear a Western politician mention the term “productivity?”
I remember teachers saying that when we were adults the work week would be shorter to give everyone jobs. Never happened for me.
Not if getting benefits is required for 32 hours which would be included in the bill. I’d rather they change the number of days to four and have 8 hours if they go this route. By the way, he didn’t win the presidency, but he did manage to get most states to go the 15 dollars an hour. And still companies are having a hard time finding people to work.
<>would establish the 32-hour workweek as standard across the United States, while mandating that workers do not lose pay.<>
is that even legal ?
In 1900 the average work week was between 55-60 hours. Sunday was usually the only day off for people in manufacturing, mining etc. if productivity remains the same or improves, then a shorter work week is not a problem. For many jobs, technological improvements have increased productivity incredibly whether you are an engineer or a farmer.
He was a carpenter for many years and then a teacher and then mayor in his late 40’s.
Illegal aliens and domestic urban welfare mooches in unison:
What is work?
Europe has had shorter hours way before the 80’s. They get three hour lunch breaks. Lunch is the biggest meal in Europe.

I demand to know from you jackals right now what in the hell is the source of your #$@@$# lie that I’m an angry old Commie coot?
Tell me. Tell me, you scumbags.
Or I’ll tear you into a hundred pieces.
A sanders is a childish communist idiot. He thinks no one would “lose pay” under hid communist plan while producing less.
Under the communist plan of Sanders, everyone gets a 20% pay increase.
Your description certainly fits Bernie.
Another 1-99 vote.
Reduce work hours but keep pay the same...
Socialists gonna socialist
Also if they do this that means 32 hours becomes the standard full-time work week. For all full-time benefits and overtime to factor off of...
Less competitors for me?
no downside...
This also is a way to mask how bad the economy and jobs are, thanks to the politicians.
quote “while mandating that workers do not lose pay”
How are they supposed to ensure that?
LMAO
The 32 hr week becomes full time.
Been there ...done dat Bernie! People in N. Y C. and overwhelming they all wanted to go home early. Needless to say it flopped
