The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) and Brown University are the latest schools to reinstate SAT or ACT score requirements in their admissions process.
UT Austin announced Monday that standardized test scores will be required again, starting with applicants for the fall of 2025. “Our goals are to attract the best and brightest students and to make sure every student is successful once they are here. Standardized scores combined with high school GPA support this goal by improving early identification of students who demonstrated the greatest academic achievement, the most potential, and those who can most benefit from support through our student success programs,” said President Jay Hartzell.
Brown University revealed last Tuesday it would also be going back to standardized test scores, which many universities dropped during the pandemic.
The requirement for test scores “will accompany enhanced communications to students and school counselors emphasizing that test scores are interpreted in the context of a student’s background and educational opportunities,” Brown’s announcement said.
In recent weeks, numerous high-profile schools decided to add the scores back, arguing it helps them get a fuller picture of applicants.
Dartmouth was the first Ivy League to recently embrace test scores for applicants again, with Yale University following soon after. ...

Next thing you know, these universities will be bringing back slavery! (/sarc)
Captain Obvious put his foot down.
Butt, butt, butt, having a brain is racist!
That’s the things about libs: when reality slaps them in the face they will reluctantly change course. Decriminalizing of drugs in Oregon is another recent example. But they never acknowledge that the reversed policy was a bad one to enact in the first place, and it never causes them to reflect on the validity of their thinking over all. It’s just full steam ahead on their other idiot ideas. No capability for self-reflection
That's the power of the 10th Commandment: By allowing the desire for other people's money to institute collective means to supposedly beneficent ends, one will empower a governance capable of enslaving everybody.
Everybody knows that objective standards are racist.
Brown was built by slave trading money.
Well, they are good little Marxists who believe that it wasn’t Marxism that failed the people, but the people who failed Marxism.
“Our goals are to attract the best and brightest students”
You cannot do that without the SAT and ACT tests.
Those test were created to “level the playing field” and find “diamonds in the rough” - not from rich, elite schools only.
Sob stories, personal hardship, first generation immigrants, legacies and grade-inflated GPAs are no measure of the “best and brightest.”
I’m guessing all those admitted without test scores being necessary had humongous drop-out rates.
Winning a few battles in the war on merit and competence.
Too late. Bankrupt them. They’ll probably start letting the dumbed down kids do the SAT by mail, or e-mail. Then the kids can report an xlnt score.
Note tagline.
“emphasizing that test scores are interpreted in the context of a student’s background and educational opportunities”
So racial bias wins out anyway, in two ways: 1) minorities get graded on a curve, because 2) the libs assume minorities aren’t capable of getting in without liberal help.
I want to know what advantage will be given to minority students who blow the doors off the test. Seems only fair, doesn’t it? Anyone? Buehler?
BTW, got my undergrad degree at UT in ‘78. There was significant affirmative action going on even back then.
Garbage in, garbage out eureka. They probably have figured out after 3-4 years of going full DEI admissions without objective standardized academic testing admits a lot of garbage into their programs, forcing them to lower grading standards to get the garbage out.
Top officers at UT/Austin (all marxists), my alma mater, didn’t go back to SAT/ACT with a smiley face. I guarantee, it took lots of ass kicking and yelling and screaming between the governors office, the AG, legislators, regents, x students, mega donors and upper management at UT. I’m surprised somebody didn’t get shot or thrown out an upstairs window.
