Donald Trump called into a CNBC show on Monday morning, allowing host Joe Kernen to ask a question about government spending and, specifically, the large chunk of spending that is committed to social programs.
“Have you changed your outlook on how to handle entitlement — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Mr. President?” Kernen asked. “It seems like something has to be done.”
At that point, two familiar patterns kicked in. Trump tends to like to align with the opinions offered by his interviewers, particularly on subjects that aren’t at the center of his political identity. He also tends to ramble when doing an interview over the phone, making it harder for hosts to cut in. So his response to Kernen was long, convoluted — and offered in agreement.
“The first one, there’s a lot you can do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting and in terms of the theft and the bad management of entitlements. Tremendous bad management of entitlements,” he said. “There’s tremendous amount of things and numbers of things you can do. So I don’t necessarily agree with the statement. I know that they’re going to end up weakening Social Security, because the country is weak.” He continued on to say something about inflation.

#1 thing to be done is put Philip Bump on the ash heap of history. He certainly deserves it.
I agree with your comment - all of it
Also
He needs to stay away from the Third Rail
Neither Social Security nor any other federal or state government spending should be used to socialize the cost of illegal immigration to support cheap labor.
TRUMP needs to be VERY CAREFUL about how he discusses Social Security and Medicare. They truly are THE THIRD RAIL and his enemies will twist his words to his detriment.
Trump train wreck in the making!

Trump talking to a liberal talk show host is like going to a rigged poker game. If you’ve very careful and very lucky, you might come out ahead.
But you probably won’t.
Fully agree, I remember a FB posting with a snowflake saying she is living in fear because republicans are going to cut SS.
However, the rats will say republicans are going to do it, whether or not it’s even mentioned. We all know repubs invest in pet products to get grandma on a dog food diet.
If states want entitlement programs, let them fund them and bear the burden.
As we all know, Social Security is not an entitlement.
Trump said nothing about cutting benefits, just going after waste, fraud, and abuse, something that, say, Obama could have said in 2008 or Clinton in 1992.
🔝🔝
Ah ok
Note to Deep State: Nice try.
Unfortunately SS has become an entitlement used to buy votes for the rats.
I listened to the clip and Trump does ramble on and change the subject a lot but as far as I can tell is he mentions cutting the waste from mismanagement not the benefits.
Like you, I paid into it for years (and still pay into it at 75). I certainly don’t consider it an entitlement. As a careful but successful investor, I could have used that money to generate a significant return (and as an obsessive saver, I would have.;-)
You pay your SSI taxes your entire working career, therefore you are entitled to SS benefits at your FRA (now age 67 for people born in 1960 and later).

I watched the interview yesterday. Trump got more than 30 minutes with no ads, and ran the table as usual. Good questions and great answers. The other networks had to use it as news for the rest of the day.
We are constantly threatened with Social Security bankruptcy if we don’t give the feral government more tax money but we never hear them voice concern about the imminent collapse of welfare programs
The government has abused the Social Security program by using it as a general welfare program instead of a contributory retirement plan for people who have actually worked.
People who have actually worked and contributed have an entitlement.
People who have not contributed but are paid Social Security benefits under the governments expansion of coverage do not have an entitlement.
Return Social Security to it’s original function as a retirement plan and it won’t always be on the threshold of collapse.
Stop the payment of Social Security benefits to others who have not contributed and it will be more viable and sustainable.
If the government wants to provide money to others it should be done through some other program - not Social Security.
The reason they do it through Socical Security is to make it easier for them to scare people into supporting tax increases.
When the government warns us that “Social Security is running out of money” many millions of people who contributed become upset and easier to manipulate.
If they say “We are running out of money to hand over to illegal aliens and slackers” they won’t get much support from those same millions of Social Security beneficiaries.
.
In the last couple of days Trump has touted how great the Covid Vaccines developed while he was POTUS, endorsed the biggest establishment Republican, Mike Rogers for the US Senate in Michigan and now broached the subject of Social Security.
Seems like a 100% pure MAGA agenda to me.../sarcasm
