NEW YORK — Gov. Kathy Hochul has pulled back the big guns in her subway safety surge, ordering the National Guard not to carry military-grade assault rifles when they check riders’ bags for weapons.
Many of the 750 troops Hochul deployed Wednesday to check riders’ backpacks hauling laptops or school books or bags carrying groceries carried M4 carbines, military assault rifles whose 5.56mm rounds can defeat some body armor.

You don’t consider National Guard Green Berets, or Reserve Navy SEALs or Air National Guard pilots military?
Some parts of the Guard and Reserves are superior to their active duty counterparts, in the past and probably now the Air Guard was considered superior with its massive flight hours and prior service versus young active pilots, and the same with Guard armor crews that are prior service and then serve on the same crew for a decade or more in the Guard, there are other such fields such as Civil Affairs, Medical etc.
Gov Hoochie...
Usually one guy will have 1 mag with 20 rounds but the rest will have nothing. God help the guy if he uses or loses those rounds. 3 guys with guns can grab some nice M4S.
People were scared of the mean-looking long guns, and would rather be pushed onto the tracks or beaten than face such horror. She had to act before she got called out in public for the horror she inflicted on hapless citizens.
Godwins law in 3 posts.
Constant posts about crime and protection. You get a show of force to combat crime and protect and it’s nazism.
“5.56mm rounds defeat all body armor with correct shot placement.”
Ahhh, I wonder about that. Recently I was browsing in my favorite gun shop and stumbled upon some body armor. I asked the sales person helping me fill my bag with AR15 accessories just what type of rounds will that stuff stop. He did say 5.56. I did not believe him, and asked again, he repeated himself.
The body armor was quite flexible and thin, it fit inside of a carrier. It had pockets in front and back where about 1” thick plates could be put. Now with both types of armor, the stuff fitted into the carrier and that plate, I bet it would stop a 5.56.
Due to the price, I passed on all of that.
So then fourth Amendment no longer applies in New York?
Posse Commentates is null and void?
Reasonable articulable suspicion that a crime has been committed necessitating a search is now a moot point?
When do the lawsuits begin?
The NG may have carried rifles.
Does anyone here think they were issued live ammunition?
Or even have bolts in their rifles?
(Some years ago, a buddy who was in NG told me that, on riot duty, the rifles had the bolts removed. He also told me that he carried his own personally purchased bolt in his pocket)

It’s for show anyways. “Look we’re doing something!”

It is only a matter of time before gangs of illegals attack and stomp the unarmed guardsmen.
The streets need to be swept clean.
Call it whatever you like.

THE HORROR! THE HORROR! Just a varmint cartridge between the .222 Remington and the .222 Remington Magnum. .222 Special it used to be called.
Now the 30-06! There is a cartridge! M-2 ball!
Were any loaded, did they have authorization to shoot…., surprised many were not mugged and weapons take
Guns are bad till they need them….
Unarmed National Guard troops? It sets them up for slaughter. These idiot Leftists will get lots of people killed.
Has anyone figured out if they have bullets?
Those sidearms most assuredly are at condition one. Ours were when we stood guard post 9/11 in the airports. As for the M4s we had a mix of A2/A3s and M4s anyone above the rank of Sgt had live rounds in there mags but they were at condition 3. E5 and under had A2/3 at condition 4 with an empty mag in the weapon and five loaded mags in the battle rattle that was for regular soldiers. Those who were 95 bravo fully qualified MPs regardless of rank had M4s condition 3 slung over and M9s at condition one regular soldiers back then didn’t have sidearms post 9/11 in the airports only the MPs.
Not a lawyer but one would think that her actions could be in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act .
Interesting, if they did that for 9/11 security then some level of security may be in place for these people, even if it doesn’t match your situation at that time and place back then.
The Guard is doing state duty, not federal duty.
I never liked 5.56x45mm ammo, with standard 55 gr FMJ bullet it was puny. So I never owned one.
Finally one day, I realized you could do a great job with Speer 70gr semi Spitzer SP bullets. That makes it a good hunting rifle. So I built my own version complete with my own maple stock. It is a hunting rifle and looks the part. No carry handle and sights close to barrel. Heavy 18” 1:8 twist barrel.
I felt the same thing about 9mm semi auto pistols, until I realized you could load that tiny bullet with enough powder to drive a 147gr XTP JHP bullet. The right load will do a great job. Precision of loading is essential.
