Republican Ousted From Office by College Student After Nearly 20 Years

A21-year-old college student is headed to November's general election after beating out a longtime state House representative in North Carolina's Republican primary on Tuesday.

Wyatt Gable, who is earning his bachelor's degree at East Carolina University, defeated North Carolina State House Representative George Cleveland by just under 2 percentage points, garnering support from a shade under 51 percent of Republican voters. The newcomer will now face Democrat Carmen Spicer in November for North Carolina's District 14 seat in the state House of Representatives.

"I just think it came down to people wanting a fresh set of ideas," Gable said after his win Tuesday night. "It took a lot of hard work by me and my team. A lot of doors were knocked, and phone calls were made."

Cleveland, 84, was seeking his 11th term in the state House Tuesday night and brought a wealth of experience to the table. He's been in office since 2005 and his legislative work has centered around personal freedom, low taxes and a business-friendly climate. Under Republican leadership, he credits his party for the state's top business ratings and financial stability.

On the other hand, Gable represents a younger generation seeking to bring fresh perspectives to the legislature. Gable markets himself as someone with insight into the public education system, given that he only graduated from high school a few years ago. He also promotes his time as a Turning Point USA president at his university, gaining experience with the conservative cause, including preventing bathroom policy changes.

I live in this district. This is for a state seat, not a congressional seat. It is a conservative district. Cleveland has done a really good job and he is very conservative. But he is really old.

Hyatt's campaign is very comprehensive. Hyatt actually made personal phone calls to the registered Republicans. When I received my phone call from Hyatt, I initially thought it was a recorded call, like we usually get. But no, he was actually on the line and answered my questions.

Well actually having a basic understanding of the technology government is constantly trying to regulate would be a plus. Most of the tech legislation we see at any level of government is laughable because it clearly shows they just don’t know how any of it works.

“On the other hand, 21 may be a little TOO young…..”

He would've been too young to storm the beaches on D-Day.

“Charlie Kirk will probably mention this today on his show, the dividends of an early investment of these young people are paying off.”

Charlie is a hard working visionary. He’s on the campuses and streets, and in the churches changing minds. Charlie is everywhere.

I listened to most of his show today and didn’t hear him mention Wyatt. Did you?

No I didn’t, but I’ll keep a sharp listen. Often there is a small delay of a day or two with interviews, wouldn’t be surprised if this youngster is flown out to AZ for an interview as both are kinda’ busy people!

Also been meaning to mention that Salem Broadcasting puts out a show daily with Kirk. It’s on Xumo Play, just download the app to your TV (if compatible) or phone or both. Others too like Hewitt, Gallagher, Prager, Sekulow, Gorka, D’Souza are there. I can’t possibly keep up on the regular podcast platforms too for the other talkers, there are so many. I must have 50 every day on auto download, yikes.
