Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan revealed Monday that he was convinced to launch his Senate campaign after witnessing former President Donald Trump’s overt influence on the debate surrounding a bipartisan border bill last month.
“It’s why I decided to run for Senate,” the Republican Maryland Senate candidate said during an appearance on MSNBC.
Hogan, 67, announced his bid for the Senate seat currently occupied by retiring Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) on Feb. 9. The former governor had previously dismissed having any interest in serving in the upper chamber, citing the quarrelsome nature of life in the Senate.

Running against Trump in Maryland is good politics.
>>>BUT, it’s pure HELL to be MAGA in Maryland.
In 2022, when our junior senator Van Hollen was up for re-election, his GOP opponent was so pathetic that I never saw an ad, a website or even a photo. I did cast a blind vote.
This time, with senior sen Cardin retiring, I’m stuck with a far leftist rat versus NeverTrumper HOGan. I may seek a 3rd party choice just for the sake of voting for that office or leave it blank.
Would he be? Or would he just be someone always appearing in the press bashing his own party? If he would be like Susan Collins and basically serve as a place holder holding a seat numerically the Democrats should ideally have (and probably will obtain once she retires) and not be a show boat, that would actually be fine. But based on his current and past behavior, that doesn't appear to be the case.
Stupid is as stupid does.
There’s no legislative ‘fix’ for the border.
It’s bait and switch for morons.
It was and still is an Executive Branch decision.
It was Biden who opened the border, and all it takes is one word from Biden to close the border.
Only an idiot, or a RINO would fall for this overwhelmingly transparent attempt to get congress to validate the illegals the Imposter has already brought in illegally.
What Trump Has Already Won - November 3, 2020, Townhall article by Larry O'Connor
The enforcement of our immigration laws (not new laws, just the robust enforcement of the laws passed by Congress and previous administrations) has been an incredible reward for Americans who respect the rule of law.
50% is more than 0%. Simple as that.
He’s got that fake outrage thing down, pat. If RINOs have a future, he’ll go far.
I think I’ll move to Maryland so I can vote for the democrat.
Better yet, I’ll stay here and vote there by mail. They like it there in Maryland.
I hope the “New” RNC does everything they can to run this Rino out of town.
Any RINO is better than any Rat in the US Senate. Take what you can get, and in Maryland Hogan is the best we can get.
Hey FAT BOY Hogan! It is NOT a “Border Bill” it is a mostly money for UKRAINE bill for kickbacks again, AND the only “Solution” for the immigration INVASION caused by repubs like YOU Hogan and demonrats— is— 18 million all of a sudden “legalized” illegal immigrants put on OUR social support networks. NO DICE Fat Boy— it isn’t “bipartisan” any more than you are a R republican.
You have two hands; rage into one, and pee into the other.
See which one gets full first? Learn to deal with it.
RINO Hogan can go F himself. The simple fact is that uncontrolled immigration is destroying this country, and will surely destroy any hope of Republicans winning any Presidential and most Senate races if a sizeable number of these illegals ever get the vote (legally or not). Further, Trump is by far the most popular Republican in the country, is clearly going to be the Party’s standard-bearer, and he recognized that the border bill being shoved down our throats by Dems and Dem-light RINOs would only have legalized the status quo...and Larry Hogan is, for some reason, blind to all of this.
PHUCK Larry Hogan!
So, you’re inviting comparisons to Biden. Bad way to begin.
He would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.
I wonder if Larry Hogan even read the immigration bill. In fact, if I didn’t tell you, most FReepers could not find it on the web.
The DemonKKKrats playing the blame game to make it look like the GOP opposed the latest legislation to fix the border situation in order to help President Trump’s election campaign.
The controversial legislation—The bipartisan Senate Amendment 1386 to H.R. 815, the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024:
It was a $118 billion package which included a series of provisions aimed at reducing record high crossings at the southern border and tightening an asylum system that has been overwhelmed by migrants fleeing their homes to seek refuge. It also included critical aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, which Republicans have said they’ll only support if it is paired with significant new U.S. immigration restrictions.
It was a Trojan Horse for embedded bad legislation that once the GOP became aware of it, was rejected 50 to 49. It would continue an illegal immigration agenda while making border chaos permanent and it limits capabilities for future administrations to stop it.
This quote describes the problems with the Ukraine provisions: “This bill violates the responsible principles consistently laid out by conservatives to consider additional aid to Ukraine: There is no public accounting of the expended military and economic aid, it is not being considered on its own, and the administration has not articulated the end goal, expected U.S. commitment, impacts of drawdown authority, and assurances of further commitments from our European partners. Tens of millions of U.S. dollars have already been stolen by corrupt Ukrainian officials because of Congress’s chaotic and reckless push to provide aid without guardrails, and the administration has yet to explain how further fraud will be prevented.”
It is Biden’s fault that the immigration laws protecting our borders have not been enforced. GOP House members want passed legislation, H.R.2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, to be enforced.
Okay, I’m swiping that for a future Chris Christie thread, to be named later
