Sea levels around NYC could surge up to 13 inches in 2030s due to climate change: state study

Sea levels surrounding New York City are expected to rise at least 6 to 9 inches in the 2030s and potentially up to 13 inches in some areas due to climate change, according to state projections.

The assessment done by the state Department of Environmental Conservations also claims that sea levels in the lower Hudson River could swell by 23 inches in the 2050s and up to 45 inches in the 2080s.

The DEC posted its projections of sea levels in the New York State Register, based on studies of global climate models. The agency is required to periodically post sea-level projections under the Community Risk and Resiliency Act.

“New York is leading the nation to address the impacts of climate change, which include heatwaves, floods, more frequent storms, and sea level rise,” the DEC said.

Oh no, The NYS DEC won’t let you do that! I live near a man made swap err I mean “wetland” and they told me I can’t do a thing in my backyard to prevent flooding.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda!

We have been promised for decades now that NYC, and DC as well, would be covered by water and/or ice. Any day now, but its usually predicted at least ten years into the future. When that day comes, they just push it out another ten years. As usual, the left’s climate change/chaos doesn’t live up to its hype.

That would solve MANY problems. Any chance we could get it done in the 2020’s?

Stupid people buy into that crap....like when Obama said “the sea level is gonna go up 20ft by 2035”....and then he buys to oceanside mansions!

There is a reason it is predictable and it has nothing to do with climate change. The levels of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans are not the same. There is a giant “slosh” that travels around the planet. It was only a few years ago the Maldive Islands were going under the sea. The eviroweenies blamed it on global warming and presto, they are no longer underwater. The slosh came and went.

I knew it would only be a matter of time before the same stunt was pulled somewhere else.

Isn’t it curious that only NYC will be affected and not Ireland, South Africa, Vancouver...? Their time is coming and the dates are very predictable.

have you considered that due to the pollution levels of the surrounding waters of nyc that the specific gravity of the polluted water will affect only the area surrounding nyc? good question for karine.

that sea levels in the lower Hudson River could swell by 23 inches

They seem to forget that water seeks its own level and that all the connected oceans on this planet would also have to "swell" by 23 inches. So where is all this water going to come from?

Yep - I heard that in the 1980’s - ooooohhhhhhh..... due to the melting glaciers, the sea level is going to rise!!! If it rises a quarter of an inch, every single home on the coast will be in the water!!!!!

Let me know when Al Whore, mooch and BO and the others sell their OCEANFRONT homes.

The problem with that is that the currents around Manhattan and its proximity to the ocean keep the water changing and not static.

I used to live near the East River on the Upper East Side and can remember boats stuggling against the powerful current there. I think the water stays relatively fresh where the currents are active and strong.

Didn’t they predict no ice on the arctic caps by 2020 yet we have record snows in the West.

The dumb bass turds with phony diplomas and “I Went To College” Che Guevera T-shirts just won’t give it up. The idiots need to get jobs. The kind where you don’t have an extra hand to carry your cellphone around all day long. You need both of them to do your job.
