Is the Gemini fallout a 'Bud Light moment' for Google?
Fox Business ^ | March 1, 2024 | Breck Dumas

Google is facing heavy backlash over accusations that the company is "woke" following the revelation that its new artificial intelligence tool, Gemini, was developed with a bias against White people.

The Alphabet-owned tech giant is scrambling to right ship after pulling the plug on Gemini's image generation features last week, with CEO Sundar Pichai telling employees on Tuesday the company is working "around the clock" to fix the tool's bias, calling the images generated by the model "completely unacceptable."

"The real problem is that Google is a tool of its woke workers and government contractors, who are manipulating Google Search and Google Gemini to divide the American people along racial and partisan lines, censor disfavored views, and spread disinformation about everyone from German farmers to American investigative reporters," Shellenberger wrote.

"Google’s CEO must snap out of denial and commit to political neutrality, which means nonpartisan and balanced political donations, nonpartisan and transparent fact-checking that is accountable for its biases and errors, and an end to censorship of politically disfavored views," he added.

Jessica Melugin, director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Center for Technology and Innovation, says she does not believe Google's troubles rise to the same level as Bud Light's.

However, "Public" founder Michael Shellenberger says the fallout over Gemini is Google's "Bud Light moment," likening the situation to what Anheuser-Busch InBev faced after its Bud Light brand was boycotted following a partnership with controversial transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

“The problem for Google, as with Bud Light before it, is that its CEO and other senior executives are still in denial about the problem…They think the problem is just a few tweaks to the AI or the algorithms."

The journalist and author argues it will take more than fixing Gemini for Google to regain the public's trust.

Anyone who values liberty and freedom still using Google as a search engine needs to have their head examined.

Not a problem for Google. Google ads cover a lot more than Google searches. A lot of people are HEAVILY invested in Google Apps, Android and Google Mail. Switching from them is not as easy as picking another beer.

It is not like Google’s competitors are any less woke or manipulative. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook are in the same bracket.

Liars. They know full well what the source of the problem is.

No. It’s not. Most people do not want to boycott big tech companies.

How many people do you see out there doing everything they possibly can to stop using Android phones and switching to Linux phones?

Apple and Google both ought to be Bud Light’d for their terrible wokeness. But they will not be.

I avoid everything Google. DuckDuckGo is an unbiased search engine and, I think, every bit as good as Google. However, it’s their mail license agreement that started it. Read it carefully. You’ve agreed not only that they have the right to read your private emails and track your movements, they have the right to sell all of that to whomever they want.

Just say ‘No’

I just removed Google and use DuckDuckGo in its place.
Should have done it years ago.

If you want an unbiased search engine unfortunately you have picked the wrong search engine. They were suppressing COVID information during the height of the insanity

From the chart, 2.3 B in tax on 69 B in revenue?

Tax is paid on revenue minus expenses. In this case, that’s $17.1bn.

I would have to disagree, though the fundamental truth does stand.

And as my post below posits, I believe all of them, Apple, Microsoft, etc. are in it for the money, but Google, also in it for the money, seems into it for other reasons which are laid out in their internal video discussed by Bill Whittle below, LINK: "The Selfish Ledger"

I disagree because Google seems to stand apart in this. I don't have the statistic that made me sit up straight in shock, but IIRC it had something to do with Chinese nationals working with green cards, and that statistic I saw conveyed it wasn't even close to any other tech giant. I can no longer find that graphic which compared Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc., but they employed more Communist Chinese citizens than any other company percentage wise if not number wise.

And in a society that has (last I checked) one surveillance camera for every two people in a country that big, it is frightening to know that they also appear to have a significant presence in the company that four billion people a day access as "the source of truth".

In a less enlightened time for me, I used to think Google was great. You could find the answer to nearly anything.

I used to use Google all the time, and at some point, the results I began to get back were...well...not what I wanted. I found what I was looking for several pages back, and I believe it is standard behavior for a lot of people not to go that far. So they end up clicking on what Google provides to them.

I began paying attention, and realized that even though I KNEW that Google "shaped" its returns...I came to realize it wasn't doing it strictly from a commerce perspective which is what I expected...it was doing it from a political perspective, and an extreme Leftist anti-American perspective.

I had never paid much attention to the stupid "Google Doodles", almost as if I were blind to them. When I began paying attention to them at the same time I began viewing their political shaping of returns, it confirmed my conclusions.

What really shook me as it took several years for this to fully sink in, is that there are probably 4 billion computer users on Earth today who view Google as the font of information about...history, politics, science, you name it. And Google has decided it wants to manipulate the thoughts and conclusions of people using its product using the subtle forces of AI, to mold and shape "correct thought" in people.

Bill Whittle did a masterful video recently called The Stolen Election Part II: Stoners and Reptiles

The whole video is worth watching, but his interpretation and presentation of the Big Tech interference in the election is critical. Near the end, if you go to the 14 minute mark of the video, he discusses a video, created for top level Google executives (and meant only for their eyes) that was leaked to the public called "The Selfish Ledger".

Bill Whittle calls it the most frightening thing he has yet seen from the Left, and I agree with him.

It describes how Google views our "ledger" to be compiled by the compilation of our online activities into a "fingerprint" of who and what we are, and likens it to our DNA that identifies us, and how they wish to alter that DNA-like "Ledger" to manipulate people to "think the right way".

As Bill Whittle explains, "As far as Google is concerned, you are not an individual, and you are not a person, you are not even really a human being. To them, you are a "ledger". Your are an archived collection of every mouse click you ever made, every web page you ever visited, every article you have ever read, that when collected into a "ledger", describes your mind in the same way that your unique DNA describes your body."

Google goes on to say in their video: "What if the "ledger" could be given a volition or purpose other than simply acting as a historical reference. What if we focused on creating a "richer" ledger by introducing more sources of information? What if we thought of ourselves not as owners of this information but as "custodians"; transient carriers, or...caretakers? As an organization, Google would be responsible for offering suitable targets for a user's ledger. Whilst the concept of a "global good" is problematic, topics would likely focus on health or environmental impact to reflect Google's values as an organization."

Chilling.

They are in it for the manipulation of human thought aspect. And the overwhelmingly vast majority of those they manipulate will have no idea.

It is not like Google’s competitors are any less woke or manipulative. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook are in the same bracket.

The difference is that they didn't put an AI front-end around their biased search engine (except for Microsoft's Bing AI). The AI image generation has exposed the bias of their search engine for everyone to see.

It's like the Google executives were the frogs in their own slowly boiling pot. They became so accustomed to their biased search engine that they didn't think twice about what it would do as the underlying basis for their AI tool.
