I think it is more like Mitch failed in his duty to bully that bill for funding Ukraine through the GOP House. I know Mitch is Senator but he has, or had, total influence over the House. He couldn't get the job done. Couldn't get Johnson to cave, so the people that do the influencing of Mitch decided he needed an example of what would happen.

Mitch announced his retirement and now those same people will try to replace him with a new “owned man”. Or else take over his seat with a fraudulent election.
