Exclusive: House Republicans Probe FBI’s Sudden About-Face On Confidential Source
The Federalist ^ | MARCH 01, 2024 | TRISTAN JUSTICE

House Republicans are demanding the FBI turn over records related to the federal government’s indictment of a once-trusted confidential human source (CHS), according to a joint congressional letter shared exclusively with The Federalist.

On Friday, House Oversight Chairman James Comer and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan sent the letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray to request documents related to Special Counsel David Weiss’s indictment of CHS Alexander Smirnov. Smirnov was charged two weeks ago for allegedly making false statements about President Joe Biden’s involvement in a criminal bribery scheme with a Ukrainian oligarch. Republican lawmakers, however, are left with questions about the FBI’s sudden about-face on the source they once highly regarded.

“Prior to the indictment, the FBI allowed Mr. Smirnov to serve as a CHS for over 14 years and earn a six-figure income, while maintaining ‘extensive and extremely recent’ foreign intelligence contacts,” lawmakers wrote. “Only after Mr. Smirnov reported that President Joe Biden accepted a bribe from a Ukrainian energy company in exchange for using his official position to oust the Ukrainian Prosecutor General did the FBI apparently take a hard look at this CHS.”

The 43-year-old Smirnov pled not guilty to charges of fabricating the multimillion-dollar bribery scheme, which was outlined in an FD-1023 before Biden took office and is now at the heart of House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry. The Bidens, Smirnov said, were paid $10 million to “protect” executives at the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma from the country’s prosecutors.

Gauleiter Garland's Department of Evil Jesters needed to quash the Joe Bribe-'em problems by indicting Smirnov for lying about the amount of bribes that Hunter and The Tater got from the Ukraine.

Hunter was bribed - there is NO doubt about that.

The Friends of Biden Incorporated.

To paraphrase Sean Hannity - 98 percent of them give the 2 percent of the good ones a bad name.

It is only fair. After all, they arrested Christopher Steele and charged him with fabricating his story about Trump's role in the Russia collusion scandal....

What? They never indicted Steele....?

Nevermind...

Did you get that backwards? For years Hannity has said 98% were great Patriots and only the top guys were corrupt. Did I misread your comment?

Anyone convicted on information provided by him or the FBI from him should immediately appeal their cases.

I would like to know if this guy played a role in the Russia Hoax and if so why he wasn’t charged for that.

Who cares what Hannity says said or will say? I don’t. Anyway, it’s not 2% bad, it is closer to 33 percent and possibly as much as or more than 50% bad giving the agency a bad name.

Arresting and jailing Smirnov is a clumsy and desperate measure by the Biden crime family. It’s obvious they want to keep him on ice and away from the impeachment inquiry. The DOJ and FBI continue to embarrass themselves as Biden’s dogs.
Disgraceful.

ps

Smirnov did not commit suicide.

Trusted whistleblower comes forward with information exposing the lies of the bidens and feebs.

Feebs arrest him suddenly saying that NOW, this time, he lied.

Media: "See? He was arrested. That means you should not believe the bidens or feebs did anything wrong. it's debunked."
