It’s not Ronald Reagan’s GOP anymore.
The Republican Party’s shift from Russia hawk to something softer is straining the GOP at a crucial juncture, highlighting the ascendency of former President Trump’s “America First” approach and exasperating old-guard conservatives who long for a return to the assertive foreign policy championed by the party through generations prior.
It’s created nothing short of an identity crisis for those Republicans who still identify with the party of former President Reagan, a Cold War president long lionized within the GOP ranks for his aggressive confrontations with the Soviet Union.
“Ronald Reagan would not recognize today’s GOP,” said John Conway, head of strategy for Republicans for Ukraine, a group pressing GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill to provide more military aid to Kyiv.

The Russian Army is a shadow of the Soviet Red Army. It’s Navy is a joke. Only globohomo neocons push the reconstituted USSR nonsense. You will recognize the Raytheon/CIA/Uke Intel Ops on the FR easily.
You're lying and trying to rewrite recent history.
Trump left the lockdowns to the states. He had no power to order or rescind them. At the Federal level, Trump was pushing to end the lockdowns as quickly as possible.
Why do you think you can get away with lying about that?
Republicans in Congress refused to give him a measly $3.5 billion for the wall. And, Trump, eventually, had to go around Congress and use funding set aside of the military to get the wall started.
Get on the Trump train or the tracks.
Victoria Nuland did everything she could to start the present proxy war. This after pushing for an illegal coup in Ukraine that setoff a civil war under Obama.
Trump, vehemently and justifiably, despises neocon foreign policy.
Reagan did not hate Russia or Russians.
He was a foe of the USSR, which has ceased to exist.
Putin would not have invaded under Yrump.
Yada yada
The primary reason why Deep State and the establishments of both parties tried to undermine Trump is because he wouldn't give the go ahead for Ukraine to attack Donetsk and Lugansk and start a proxy war with Russia.
It's all about money. The elite wanted a proxy war with Russia in hope of overthrowing Putin. Then, they wanted to raid Russia of money and resources just like they have raided Ukraine for the past decade.
Put8n got too prideful, and thought he could take all of Ukraine. He should have just taken the Russian areas, and saved lives and trouble. But, it wad Brandon who caused this by saying he could have those areas. Peace through srenth works.
That is not to say that Russia is not justifiably Pernod about thier western flank. What matters is the dying stops.
Really? Can you cite one instance where any decision, order or operation put forward by Putin was challenged, let alone halted by any person or element of the Russian govt. Putin has fewer restrictions on his govt decision making than any Soviet leader did following the death of Stalin.
In Reagan’s time it was the USSR. In Trump’s time it is Russia. And Yes, there is big difference.

Russia's Putin softens pension reforms after outcry
Russian leader Vladimir Putin has softened planned pension changes following angry protests and a slump in his approval rating.
He said the retirement age for women would be increased from 55 to 60 instead of to 63. But a five-year increase for men, to 65, would stay.
In a rare TV address, Mr Putin said the country's working-age population was shrinking, making change essential. Unions have warned that many will not live long enough to claim a pension.
Russian men have a life expectancy of 66 while for women it is 77, the World Health Organization says.
The issue has seen support for Mr Putin fall to 64% from 80%, according to VTsIOM state pollster.
“to provide more military aid to Kyiv”
Russia will break out and run, probably before such aid would arrive.
Also, Russia is pressed for time, to perform that breakthrough, because Ukraine forces are laying many thousands of mines.
