In a surprise move, an Illinois judge has removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s ballot based on the 14th Amendment’s so-called “insurrectionist ban.”
The decision is paused, giving Trump a short period of time to appeal.

and the Supreme Court will overturn this nonsense 9-0..my guess is the Haley campaign, oops I meant to say the Biden campaign, Haley, Biden, same thing, after she got her ASS KICKED last night, sent a note out saying start removing him from more ballots
Ill-annoy judge needs to be removed from his office. Allegations do not a crime make. Hey judge....🖕
If Trump’s voters can’t vote for Trump, they can vote for RFK, Jr., and even with all of the cheating, Biden likely can’t win.
The Supreme Judicial aka Executive aka Legislative Branch has usurped power again
So that’s how they plan to steal the election.
Yep. She looks just like what I figured she would.
L
Again, Trump did not get indicted and did not get convicted.
Innocent unless proven guilty.
Dems are following “people will continue with their current behavior unless stopped.” They think anything they feel is justification for any action.
Trump has not been charged with nor has he been found guilty of insurrection.
He is worse than Biden and has NO party affiliation, which makes it far easier to remove Bobby Jr.’s name IF it is even on the ballot !
I forget, when was Trump charged, tried and convicted of insurrection? You’ll think a judge would understand “due process”
Section Three provided a disability for certain federal offices for those who “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States “or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” The last sentence of section Three provides, however: “But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.” Amendment XIV, § 3. The better view of the historical record is that Congress repealed Section Three entirely. See Hans A. von Spakovsky, Efforts by Courts or State Officials to Bar Members of Congress from Running for Re-Election or Being Seated Are Unconstitutional, Heritage Fdn., April 6, 2022, https://www.heritage.org/sites/default/files/2023-04/LM301.pdf
The 1898 report of the Committee on the Judiciary offers the most definitive evidence of Congressional intent. It begins by observing that the bill under consideration was “to remove all disabilities imposed by the fourteenth article of the Constitution . . .”. 31 Cong. Rec., at 5404 (June 1, 1898). It observes that “it was not intended that this exclusion [i.e., Section 3 itself] should be permanent or universal . . ..” Id. Senator William H. Steward, who introduced the bill, S. 4578, said: “I introduce a bill, and ask unanimous consent to put it on its passage. It proposes to remove all disabilities imposed by the fourteenth article of the Constitution. It is but a line long.” 31 Cong. Rec. 4833 (May 12, 1898) (emphasis added).
IMHO, the most statemanlike path for the Supreme Court to take would be to declare the entire Section a dead letter, so that it doesn’t become the weapon of choice to make us into a banana republic even faster—because every regime in power can regard their opponents as insurrectionists. Unfortunately, as far as I know, no one is presenting this position to the Supreme Court, perhaps because a later Congress ignored all this when using Section Three to go after a Wisconsin socialist politician.
Illinois should be charged for all legal costs - appeal + subsequent appellate reversal - plus treble damages, for this frivolous action.
I’m so angry right now…is this for the primary, the general election, or both?
Trump was found not guilty of Insurrection via the Impeachment process.
Write Trump in.
Yeah ... the Supreme Court will get around to arguments later this year and give their ruling in November some time.
I posted the entire article. I first saw it on Twitter. The ruling was made just minutes ago.
Who do these judges think they are?!
