CBS News has returned the notes it seized from a high-profile reporter the network fired for 'investigating Hunter Biden.'
Catherine Herridge, a veteran reporter covering national security and intelligence, was among the hundreds of CBS employees who were laid off by parent company Paramount last week.
Herridge covered investigations into the Biden family, and the network seized her personal notes after her termination in a move her union calls 'completely inappropriate' and 'very unusual.'

'This action is deeply concerning to the union because it sets a dangerous precedent for all media professionals and threatens the very foundation of the First Amendment
...
Herridge had recently covered the House impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, special counsel Robert Hur's report on his handling of classified documents, and the criminal charges against Hunter Biden.
Her inclusion in recent layoffs puzzled some industry observers, as she regularly broke news and landed scoops for CBS.
'Catherine Herridge has been a unicorn, a reporter for the corporate media for CBS, and she has been willing to actually report on the Biden corruption so what did CBS do? They laid her off?' Senator Ted Cruz
...
Herridge had been pursuing a story related to Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop, and that she had 'encountered roadblocks' from management over her coverage of the First Son.
Herridge in November 2022 authenticated the laptop, which the Post had first reported on in October 2020.
Separately, Herridge has been in the middle of a high-profile court battle over her refusal to reveal sources for articles she wrote in 2017.

“SAG-AFTRA, the CBS workers’ union, called the seizure of her notes ‘completely inappropriate’ and ‘very unusual’.”
What are they complaining about, they got who they wanted in power.
Bkmk
I get it! This is a subtle “We know who you are now!” message to the people that she interviewed. And should the time come when congress wants to interview them, they suddenly won’t be available.
Ted is correct about that, and SeeBS is lying, as they always do. It’s clear that SeeBS was doing the bidding of the regime.

JUST THE SAME AS HILLARY AFTER THE FBI FILES WERE STOLEN
Journalism, I think rightly, has historically been ruled by ethical standards unique to itself. A free press requires the use of sources protected and cultivated by the individual journalists. One could argue as you have that CBS paid for and thus owns her work product. The issue is will CBS continue pursuing her work and more importantly keep her sources confidential. One historical safeguard against a news organization releasing the names of confidential sources, is for the individual journalist maintaining sole custody of their sources identities. CBS has broken with this precedence and it is not hard to figure out why.
Because FNC went PROG/WOKE/LIB many years ago!
You wrote that without laughing? Over the last 10-20 years they openly disgarded any ethical standards. They no longer investigate, they no longer report the truth, they no longer leave their personal bias, bigotry, and views at the door. I've seen repeated comments by well-known reporters saying their views must be shared, are more important than the truth.
The way to look at this is think of the mass media as the Mob.
They are lying immoral thieving enemies of the people.
But—they still have an internal code.
They broke that code.
the reporter needs to sue them for 50 million, and if CBS says they are innocent, then sue them against for defamation!
(because in the Trump era this is how justice works now)
I hope Newsmax picks her up, she would be a good fit.
MY view of employer/employee is like this: you hired me to do X in the manner of Y which is how you have had the work done previously. Now I perceive that job X can be done in the manner of Z at great savings and increased profits. But you expect me to give you that new process for nothing addtional despite having paid me no more than necessary to have the work done in the old process.
No way.
I refuse to sign the intellectual property agreements unless fairly compensated. And have been hired anyway.
Until now. Normalcy Bias will kill you.
If she claimed that by contract it was shared or hers, fine. But if not, it is not hers, it is theft by her to take or keep it.
Further, however politically inconvenient it is, it is up to the employer to decide what to do with it. In this case, they may have shared it with others, they also now give some or all of it to her.
Yeah it probably didn’t take them an hour to have the government make a copy of the hard drive.
We are not stupid.
They were more interested in marketing and promoting pretty younger things with yellow hair than pushing her stuff out.
Herridge is under fire for not complying with US District Judge Christopher Cooper’s order to reveal how she learned about a federal probe into a Chinese American scientist who operated a graduate program in Virginia.
The journalist may soon be held in contempt of court for not divulging her source for an investigative piece she penned in 2017 when she worked for Fox News.
Funny. Turning corrupt Trump’s money to the corrupt state of New York. Sort of off setting penalties?
