My prediction is that the NCAA is eventually going to spin off college football and basketball and set them up as professional sports leagues. There will probably be an age limit like the Canadian junior hockey leagues. The schools will generate revenue from the deal by signing licensing agreements with outside partners to retain the names and trademarks of the top programs.
Fans, boosters and school administrators can stop this silly charade of pretending they care if the starting QB for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the All-American defensive end for the Michigan Wolverines are actually students at those universities.

That would certainly be the most honest solution. So I don't see it being implemented.

UNC told the NCAA that their fake classes for fake students for basketball and football players were legitimate, as long as a few regular students played that game. And then the NCAA played along too.

No. The NCAA will cease to exist. That’s what the death of the PAC sets up. Now there’s 4 super conferences, so they can make nice clean playoff trees, and tell the NCAA to #$%^ off. Maybe the lower divisions of NCAA will continue to exist. But D1 is going to leave them entirely.
