British nuclear missile 'misfires and crashes into ocean'

A Trident nuclear missile misfired and crashed into the ocean near the submarine that launched it during a test last month, it has been reported.

It is the second misfire in a row, after a failed launch in 2016.

The missile’s first stage boosters did not ignite during a test launch by HMS Vanguard on January 30, and it fell into the ocean and sank, the Sun reported.

Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Ben Key were both on board the submarine during the test, according to the newspaper.

What if a barge had been there with fifty leading Dems from the United States to support our ally and watch the launch?

I'd call it a loss of a good barge.

This guy sees a Southwest Asia Service Medal, for deployment there during the First Gulf War 1990-1992.

Also there’s what looks like a leafy felt tomato his granddaughter asked him to wear.

Not armed, surely- equiv payload weight sub launched? Assuming. But still the tech is not correct, hence the test in the first place.

missile comes out the chute/bay by being expelled by massive pressurized steam, thrown a certain distance above the sea level, THEN the rockets are supposed to fire. Not before and not too long after a certain height.

These two should get a room, and then practice the missile launch-— puff, puff, spit repeat. Sorry looking worst pair in the clown college of “uniforms”.

> What the hell is ANYONE doing firing nuclear missiles to begin with? <

The British lost a cargo ship to the Houthis the other day. So perhaps they fired the missile as a show of force.

But here’s the thing. If you’re going to rattle your saber, you’d better be damn sure the blade doesn’t fall off.

Oh, but it gets worse. The Royal Navy also doesn’t have enough escort ships to fully support their two carriers. It’s evidently a crew shortage thing.

So even if both carriers were ready to sail into a combat zone, they both wouldn’t be going.

The Royal Navy hasn’t been in an engagement since 1945.

You forgot the sarcasm tag....and the Falklands, and MauMau rebellion, and Suez crisis, and Indo-paki war, and the Persian gulf war I, Persian gulf part 2, and various brush wars around the planet.

> How did that guy get all those medals? <

As a prank, an ROTC guy I knew put a stick of Trident gum in among his many ROTC ribbons. It fit pretty good, and no one ever noticed. Maybe this admiral is doing something similar.

> Piss poor maintenance. <

Funny that you should phrase it that way. My father served in the US Navy during WW2, on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. And on occasion his ship would be docked next to a British ship. One thing he noticed was how the British sailors would just piss into empty barrels (and in other spots) on the deck instead of going below.

So I guess if you piss into a missile silo, bad things might happen.
(Just kidding about the missile thing, Brits.)
