The right of the people to keep and bear arms isn't just about our individual ability to act in self-defense or defense of others. As the Founders knew, the body of the people capable of bearing arms (otherwise known as the unorganized militia) is necessary to the security of a free state as well. Second Amendment attorneys Chuck Michel and Kostas Moros have done an excellent job of laying out the arguments of the Founding Generation in their recent law review article entitled Restrictions "Our Ancestors Would Never Have Accepted": The Historical Case Against Assault Weapon Bans, but the government of Finland has also given us a very important reminder that, even today, individual gun ownership serves as a check on tyranny and as a means of ensuring that a free people stay that way.
Finland plans to open more than 300 new shooting ranges to encourage more citizens to take up the hobby in the interest of national defence.
It is hoped that shooting in the Nordic country – which last year became Nato’s newest member and which shares a 830-mile (1,330km) border with Russia – could become as popular as football or ice hockey.
There are about 670 shooting ranges in Finland, down from about 2,000 at the turn of the century. By 2030, the government plans to increase the number to about 1,000.
Jukka Kopra, a National Coalition party MP and the chair of Finland’s defence committee, told the Guardian: “The present government aims to increase the amount of shooting ranges in Finland from roughly 600-700 up to 1,000. This is because of our defence model, which benefits from people having and developing their shooting skills on their own.”

The Finns have a long history of defense needs and apparently they haven’t forgotten them. Good for Finland!
(in their own way, the Swiss have a similar positive attitude about being prepared to defend their country if needed)
I am of the opinion that JROTC programs should be teaching marksmanship via airgun competitions.

thanks for that link ..... I thought I could sneak a little shut eye ... I should have known better... blink and you might miss something
Until these commies start being held accountable for their attempts to violate the Constitution we will see more of this kind of ... hmmmm ... stuff
Why can’t they be prosecuted for violation of their oath?
Where are the lawyer sharks on our side?
We need to get in the game...LAWFARE ....
....kind of boils my behind.
The Finns are not Scandinavian, ie Swedes, Danes and Norwegians, and do not consider themselves to be. They’re not ethnically the same and do not speak a Scandinavian language. Remember the olympic sport of the biathlon — skiing and shooting, was created to memorialize the Finns’ fight against the Russians.
If you really want to preserve gun rights ... take a kid hunting or to the range .... or just plinking out back

My local radio station runs a commercial for a local gun shop which ends with a young lad saying to his father, “Hey Dad, let’s go down to the gun store!” That commercial must give the few leftist morons in my area some serious indigestion! Smile every time I hear it!
We should bring back firearms training (at the minimum, the NRA safety courses) into the schools.

The nearest public high school where I live has an active JROTC program that includes target shooting. I recently met the teacher, a hardcore Army veteran with combat experience in the Middle East.
What the Russians really want is Finnish territory (and Estonia) to give free access from Petersburg to the Gulf of Finland and so to the Baltic.
That bit of Finland thats on the gulf is the most populated and developed bit of course, including Helsinki.
Russia also wants the highly educated and productive Finns under their rule.
The “Left” in this Country are literally DOMESTIC ENEMIES and should be treated as such at every opportunity.

I preach that gospel to EVERY person with whom I’m acquainted. Many agree with me but quite a number have been brainwashed beyond all hope.
“What the Russians really want is Finnish territory (and Estonia) to give free access from Petersburg to the Gulf of Finland and so to the Baltic.”
As long Finland doesn’t elect another woman, Russia has nothing to worry about.
As far as educated Finns go, Russia doesn’t need them, they have PLENTY of very well educated people, as they don’t let the Leftists run education there.
“Hey Dad, let’s go down to the gun store!”
That puts me in mind of the little ditty they used to play
before the movies at the theater when I was a kid.
Little cups of soda and pop corn boxes dancing across the screen. singing “let’s go out ...to the ... lobby...”
Some brilliant young mind should do a remake ...
Little 300 black outs and 30 rnd mags dancing and singing ....”let’s go down ...to the ...gun store...”
be a good meme
God, guns, and guts!

No, Russia doesnt have these people. It just lost nearly a million of them in 2022-23, to add to the regular annual “brain drain”.
Worse, it doesnt have the entrereneurial spirit to make good use of them. In theory Russia should have all it needs to develop entrepreneurial high tech firms, but no, it hasnt. Where is the Russian Nokia?
“No, Russia doesnt have these people.”
That’s why NATO weapons are getting CLOBBERED. That’s why the Sanctions have only made Russia stronger.
I’ll save you the trouble of responding with more Neocon-type excuses for Ukraine getting their assess kicked: (1) The Ukrainians are not properly trained; (2) Just you wait, Bob, we always said that the sanctions would not affect Russia until AFTER the second half of 2024.
Based on what you guys have been saying about Russia’s lack of capabilities from Day 1, why isn’t Ukraine storming the Kremlin Gates by now?
the 2A is just as dangerous in the hands of the left as it is in ours.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Potentially yes, but not now for two big reasons: (1) a large percentage of leftists are opposed to the 2nd Amendment and don’t want anything to do with firearms; and (2) tens of millions of men and women who despise the left are now armed to the teeth and waiting patiently for a justifiable reason to rid our country of the bast*rds.
(in their own way, the Swiss have a similar positive attitude about being prepared to defend their country if needed)

That attitude and the defensive measures that resulted persuaded Herr Adolf to leave the Swiss alone during WW-II.
Er, NATO weapons arent getting clobbered. The important ones arent even deployed. And nearly everything sent is at least 30 years old. Most is older.
The newest things in Ukraine are NASAMS and IRIS-T, in small numbers. Besides commercial drones of course. And Starlink.
The important part is the civilian economy. Russia simply hasnt produced an internationally relevant tech company, or consumer brand. Thats because the relevant people go abroad. I have hired a few. And my vendors hired many more.
What the Russians really want is Finnish territory (and Estonia) to give free access from Petersburg to the Gulf of Finland and so to the Baltic.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Many people are unaware that Russian already has an ice-free port at Kaliningrad on the Baltic.
Yeah maybe 50 years ago Finland was still homogeneous. That’s hardly the case anymore.
Both are true, and that is our opportunity for a conservative President to transform the unorganized militia.
