Sen. JD Vance tells Tucker about massive effort to stop $60 billion Ukraine bill with poison pill for Trump in it

U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) raised the alarm over a bill that would send billions of U.S. dollars to Ukraine, telling Tucker Carlson that he and other lawmakers are doing everything they can to “kill” the legislation.

In Episode 74 of Carslon’s show on X, the senator detailed the red flags in funding Ukraine’s war and what is being done to derail what he called out as “political calculation” in the bill.

Carlson kicked off the episode on Monday with an assessment of the futility of funding Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia, saying “It’s not simply a fool’s errand, it’s self-destruction. It’s insane, it’s cruel, it’s abetting the killing of an entire generation of Ukrainians,” as he noted the nation doesn’t have the manpower or the “industrial capacity” to continue to withstand Russian forces.

He also called out the Ukrainian government as “both corrupt and authoritarian.”

“They’ve canceled elections, they banned an entire Christian denomination, and then they killed an American journalist for noting any of this,” Carlson said. “And yet the United States Senate proposed, under Mitch McConnell, a plan to send another $60 billion to Ukraine.”

Vance laid out the details of the measure ahead of voting that ended up taking place early Tuesday morning. The Senate passed the $95.3 billion foreign aid bill, which includes aid for Ukraine and Israel, in a 70 to 29 vote with 22 Republicans – including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell – voting in favor.

“That’s part of what I’m trying to do is notify people about how bad this legislation is so that after it clears the Senate, if it does, then it goes to the House and the House has a real opportunity to at least make it better, but hopefully kill it,” Vance told Carlson.

After slamming the “terrible, terrible piece of legislation,” the senator told Carlson that the funding is not just for this year but will continue into the term of the next elected president.

“So if Trump is elected President again and becomes President on January of 2025, he will conduct diplomacy. And if that diplomacy does not include sending additional billions to Ukraine, there is a theoretical argument, a predicate, if you will, for impeaching Donald Trump because they have tried to tie his hands,” Vance explained.

“The final point I’ll make on this, Tucker, is that The Washington Post has already said, based on leaks from inside the intel community, the purpose of this legislation is to tie a future President Trump’s hands,” he added.

This is insane

“We’re not just sending billions to Ukraine in 2024. We’re trying to make it impossible for the next President to conduct diplomacy on his terms. It’s antidemocratic, and it will lead to endless war all over the world,” he warned, adding that “the political calculation behind this seems incredibly dark.”

He also drew attention to the “humanitarian effect” of continued funding, calling out members of Congress who do not seem concerned with the number of Ukrainian casualties as a result of the war.

Vance laid out damning claims about the Ukraine government’s “propaganda” and the views of the nation’s own population.

At the same time that world leaders play armchair general with the Ukraine conflict, their own societies are decaying.

Not a single country – not even the US – within the NATO alliance has birthrates at replacement level. We don’t have enough families and children to continue as a nation and yet we're talking about problems 6,000 miles away.

We're being invaded by up to 10 million illegal migrants over the course of Joe Biden's term in office, and we have apparently no president with the willpower to stop that problem.

What are we doing, ladies and gentlemen? China and Russia, if we want them to fear us we need to rebuild our own countries. We need to rebuild a strong Europe and a strong America. pic.twitter.com/reevZmymvA

— J.D. Vance (@JDVance1) February 12, 2024

“So the idea that this is unanimously supported by the Ukrainian population is, of course, preposterous and absurd,” he said, adding that it is, in fact, “fundamentally in the interests of military contractors and people who think that America’s most pressing challenge is to defeat the Russians.”

“Of course, that’s not a preoccupation that I share. I don’t think Russia should have invaded Tucker, but I also think that we got to be much more focused on more pressing problems like the demographic collapse of the United States, like the open borders, and like what’s going on in East Asia. It’s a massive campaign, Tucker, to distract people from the real problems in the world and the real problems that exist in this country,” Vance asserted.

This morning the America last caucus got a $61 billion aid package out of the Senate. But they paid dearly for this small win. The House won’t pass the current bill.

We must fix our country before devoting more resources to Ukraine.

That’s our message, and the fight goes on.

To be clear, the funds aren’t killing Ukrainians. Russians are killing Ukrainians.

To be clear, the misdirected funds are being used to kill Americans.

This has gone way too far.

The Ukraine is not an American ally.

Heck, it’s not even a friend.

I keep hearing that there is a poison pill in here for a possible future Trump presidency...but couldn’t the next congress undo it just the same as it was created here?

They could, assuming Conservative Republicans take control of Congress in 2024. Can we rely on this assumption?

What normally happens is the House would modify the bill to their liking. Then they meet and hammer out a bill that satisfies both houses. That’s if they want to pass a bill.

“couldn’t the next congress undo it just the same as it was created here?“

Well that is the BS spin, it would take a bill that made it through both houses. Even if by some miracle we got both there would be enough deep state a-holes to keep it from passing. The rats and the GOPe stuffed this little gem in there knowing it would be almost impossible to undue it. That is why Pelosi is trying to use a discharge petition to force it.

Exactly!

More generally, Presidents are always inaugurated partway through the government’s fiscal year. Therefore, enactment of a budget ALWAYS has some effect of restricting the options of the new President, unless Congress changes it. When Biden took office, the budget that was in place for the first several months of his term was the budget that Trump had signed.

Calling this a “poison pill” is just scaremongering.

Our next president, Trump, will oversee foreign aid. And if he does not include sending additional billions to Ukraine, the venal corrupt Ukranians——so desperate for tax dollars——carpet bombed a US appropriations bill w/ threats to impeach Donald Trump.

It is mind-boggling that we’ve allowed a foreign country to tie
the hands of a president to get their filthy hands on tax dollars.

That “tie the next presidents hands” could only happen if Dims keep the Senate and or get a new majority in the House, because what one Congress does a next Congress can undo, including spending measures.

Ukraine is the democratic Party’s ATM. It is the nation Biden used to launder bribe money.

If Trump should win, I expect a "Gulf of Tonkin Incident" to drag us in. Easy for the Defense Department to arrange.
