A Ukrainian “coup” in 2015 that ousted the country’s pro-Moscow president put Russian and Ukraine on the path to war, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a much-touted interview with conservative pundit Tucker Carlson released Thursday.
The Russian president in the two-hour interview also said peace talks with Ukraine early in the conflict had been “almost finalized” in 2022 before the U.S. and its European allies blocked further progress.
...
Peace negotiations were “almost finalized after we withdrew our troops from Kyiv, but then the other side threw away all the agreement and obeyed the instructions of European countries and the U.S. to fight to the bitter end,” Mr. Putin contended at one point.

“Nobody seems to remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. Russian nukes barely 90 miles from the US. What’s the difference between that and, say, when nuke-armed NATO is similarly situated to Russia?”
“It’s different when we do it.”
Either NeoCons or Leftists. The arguments are the same.
“Because Russia is and was a hostile country to us and other peaceful countries and thus constituted a threat and still does.”
Iraq, Somalia, Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria have joined the chat.
The West should have stopped expanding NATO in 2004 after the Baltic states joined. The 2008 Bucharest declaration is what really stoked Russia’s fears. NATO saying that Ukraine and Georgia will become NATO members did not sit well with Russia. Policy of NATO should have been that Ukraine stays neutral. The 2014 coup in Ukraine made matters even worse with regard to Russia’s worries about security. A NATO naval base in Ukraine on the Black Sea would be one of Russia’s worst nightmares.
“Because Russia is and was a hostile country to us...”
And you don’t think there are a few others who are of a similar attitude?
NATO was formed before the Warsaw Pact (1954 - USSR fall) to meet a perceived threat from the USSR in the North Atlantic Regions. The Warsaw Pact was disbanded. Why hasn’t NATO disbanded? Why instead has it expanded (and seeks to expand everywhere beyond its charter territories?)
Russia is a threat. So is China, so are most Arab countries. So are India and Pakistan for that matter - and Iraq, Afghanistan...... Include all of the banana republic countries to our south and you have a whole bunch of threats to varying degrees. None of them are peaceful
Total nonsense
yes, it was Ukrainian
you Putin groupies just have trouble accepting that Ukraine wanted nothing to do with Russia (and still don’t, that’s why they fight so hard)
The "coup", which it was, thank you soetoro / biden, was just an excuse for Putin's territory grab.
Instead, we humiliated Russia.
Don't forget Russia used to be the Soviet Union. And before that, the Russian Empire. They were broken in the '90s. So that brought the rise of Putin, and the rest is history.
Lindsey Graham was John's soulmate and he is carrying McCains’ torch.
Nato was not disbanded because we had other threats and because we didn’t trust Russia yet and that turned out to be justified. The Warsaw pact was disbanded because the captive nations escaped, and Russia was all alone. The other threats you mentioned are all quite manageable and are a justification for keeping NATO in tact.
The coup was in 2014. Are all journalists this stupid?
Like every other useless dinosaur, NATO’s bones should be in a museum. Not out there expanding EVERYWHERE with nuclear weapons.
And the ‘other threats’ thing is hogwash. It was the USSR period - the big bad bear. BTW, we aren’t ‘managing’ any of those other threats - they’re all being used to feed the MIC machine.
c’mon Rev Wrong you know full well that those countries you mentioned do not constitute a serious threat to this country or others. They still need to be watched for relatively smaller problems but none of them are going to start a major war with us since they would be taken care of pretty easily.
The point is, all those countries were attacked by the “peaceful” USA.
How much does Biden pay Zeepers such as yourself?
And how many of those countries did the US annex?
lol
Serbia was severed. The border was forcibly changed and a new country created.
The governments of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya were overthrown.
They tried with Syria, but Russia defeated them.
