McConnell faces career-defining test in Trump battle over Ukraine, border

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) will face one of the toughest challenges of his career this week when he tries to muster Senate Republicans to vote for a Ukraine funding and border security package that former President Trump wants to kill.

McConnell’s initial goal, according to Senate GOP colleagues, was to get a border security deal that would have the support of at least half of his conference, which numbers 49 members.

It now appears the defense supplemental spending bill, which includes the border security provisions as well as funding for Ukraine, Israel and Indo-Pacific security, will get less Republican support than that.

Might be different after he finishes offering his bribes and threats.

Here’s hoping that he freezes again and this bill fails.

OTOH - the grifter got Trump’s SCOTUS picks across the finish line.
Or maybe they were McConnell’s picks. Hmmmm....

So long as the senators tolerate him, they deserve him.

McConnell needs to be replaced by a solid conservative, which he is most definitely not.

Does McConnell appear in any way to be enjoying his job? When he appeared in pics to look all beaten up a while back, it reminded me of Harry Reid who looked similarly and more severely beaten, even being blinded in one of his eyes. Dubious sounding story of exercise power band snapping that caused it was printed.
Could these and more of our leadership be being blackmailed currently? That they can’t step down though old and ill or would be harmed? Sad to even think that but were those 900 fbi files on mostly repubs that got collected by Clinton White House ever returned? Copied first? Is this and more still going on?
I recall unsuited rumors for years that Hoover never retired because he had so much compromising material on everyone of note. Who took that material when he finally passed? Are they still using it plus fresh stuff?
Souldnt Americans have a right to know and civic duty to ask if their leadership is compromised or not?

Oh. I think MConnell's long career well-defines him.
While he was brilliant at times in standing up for conservative principles (stopping the advance of Democrat/Communist-nominated USSC judges comes to mind), McConnell has demonstrated clearly that his principles are malleable, sometimes a matter of convenience and many times based on a political calculation ... which makes his "conservative principles" not principles at all.

“Could these and more of our leadership be being blackmailed currently?”

Of course they are. Have been for decades.

Until very recently the carrot/stick driven crowd have been in the minority; however in the last few years -thanks to Obama’s efforts-the UniParty has fully emerged and their work is seen all around us

Amendment to the bill:

ALL illegal aliens “encountered” at the border MUST be paroled into Kentucky with an amnesty time requirement of two years.

AND the State of Kentucky MUST provide for ALL social welfare of this group, over and above the educational requirements of Plyler v. Doe

I doubt that Mitch is alive. He looks like and acts like they took him to the taxidermist, long ago. He has nothing to do with this deep state bill. It is from the CIA.

I imagine there are a few Democrat senators in a close election battle in 2024 who cannot vote for it.

With the predicted Kabuki theater, I'm sure they'll have the numbers worked out over who will be "allowed" to vote against it.

RINO traitor Lankford does not have to face the voters again until 2028. That's why the Turtle chose him to negotiate/surrender to the Democrats.
