Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley has condemned Walgreens for 'racial and economic discrimination' after closing a pharmacy in Boston.
Pressley, a member of the ultra-progressive 'Squad', said the chain was 'abandoning' low-income communities with the most recent closing in Roxbury on Wednesday.
Walgreens announced the closure of several stores nation wide due to what the company has described as 'rampant theft' in some areas.
Pressley said this decision targets areas with significant minority populations, calling for the company to reconsider their decision instead.
In a speech addressing the house, she said: 'This closure is a part of a larger trend of abandoning low-income communities like the previous closures in Mattapan and Hyde Park, both in the Massachusetts 7th.
'Why was there no community input? No adequate notice to customers? And no transition resources to prevent gaps in health care? Shame on you, Walgreens.
'Having a website with talking points about health equity and underserved communities is not enough.
'Walgreens is a multi-billion-dollar corporation that needs to put their money where their mouth is and stop divesting from Black and brown communities.'
Walgreens, which has been one of the chains hit hardest by retail theft, announced its intentions to close roughly 200 stores across the nation last year.
The Walgreens that Pressley had been referring to was the fourth one in Boston to close in a little over a year, according to Boston25 News.
In order to help ease the transition, Walgreens said they would automatically transfer patient files and prescriptions to a Walgreens one mile away.

Another example of a parasite terminating the host. It all fun and games and party time until the bill comes due. Well, the bill came due, and this is the result. So don’t act surprised or shocked.
She’s saying that black people are more likely to be criminals.
That’s pretty funny, coming from her.
Useless without photos of this bald head Stooge. She is frightening and should have kept her wig collection. That she donated to Maxine Waters
“Why was there no community input?”
Walgreens has already RECEIVED the community input which is why they are closing the stores.
So is she telling us we must accept the fact that POC can not live by certain rules? and we should just learn to live with it?
I’m so confused.
Ok Ayanna, how about you cover the losses and pay for customer security?
“Walgreens has already RECEIVED the community input which is why they are closing the stores.”
The community input — “We are going to rob you blind”
So if people are not allowed to steal like someone stole her hair, then it’s racist. Got it.
She wants the stores without crime problems and expenses to subsidized those in the high crime areas. Always blame others for their mistakes.
Tone deaf and ignorant is no way to go through life; but, here she is...killin’ it.
ahahahaha
“to a Walgreens one mile away.”
OH MY GOD, they will have to travel an extra MILE to go to another Walgreens.
There is probably a CVS across the street or right next door.
CVS is headquartered in the Boston area. The only thing more prevalent are DUNKINS.
FYI, Pressley was all in on DEFUND the POLICE a few years back.
Seriously-—”Shut the hell up”. My goodness!! This “racism crap” is beyond stupid anymore-—
Know when to be quiet and know when to speak.
Er....chicken egg?
The African-American Curley from the Three Stooges? (Not to be confused with Boston radio host Grace Curley.)
Looks to me like they're abandoning high-crime cesspools.
Dear "Black Community": Clean up your act!
Classic Democratic tactic—screaming in pain while they strike you.
Now Ayanna Pressley is someone who clearly has no clue about how business works. Perhaps you can send your wisdom to her.
