ROME — Pope Francis received Italian American director Martin Scorsese for a private meeting in the Vatican on Wednesday.

Scorsese, who directed the controversial 1988 film The Last Temptation of Christ and is currently working on a movie of the life of Jesus, has said that when he thinks of Pope Francis, he thinks of “compassion.”

n Wednesday’s meeting, the 81-year-old director presented Pope Francis with a book chronicling the making of his Oscar-nominated film Killers of the Flower Moon.

Papal confidant Father Antonio Spadaro, a harsh critic of American Christians, gushed effusively over the meeting, insisting that it formed part of an ongoing dialogue between “two men of genius and experience for whom the figure of Christ has an extraordinary fascination and value.”

Go back to argentina. Most useless pope in my memory. Did the college of cardinals punk the catholics?

Is Scorcese openly devout?
I kind of thought of him as a cafeteria Catholic, based upon his films and themes therein. No?

Most of Scorsese’s films have very catholic morality tales at their core. This is especially true in his “mob” movies. Scorsese once came close to exercising a vocation for the priesthood.

LOL. Morality Catholic tales.

The Departed can be edited down to 12 minutes if you delete all the F words.

The Last Temptation? Morality tales? Please.

My wife and I just watched a low budget movie called Sanctified. Finally, a movie in the 21st century that tackles a few classic moral conundrums without making a mockery of Christianity. All filmed on location in the North Dakota badlands. Main actor was from Bismarck. Good western feel, gorgeous cinematography and deep script that invites ethical discussions. You’re right about Martins catholicity, he’s right up there with Madonna.

Thank you for the recommendation! I can't find much information about it, but it looks very good. It appears to be unrated. May I ask, is it religiously, morally, or sexually offensive? Just to stay on topic, every Marin Scorsese movie ever made has been religiously, morally, or sexually offensive. For a self-described "artist", has never made anything beautiful or edifying.

Not offensive at all to me although the bad guy is really bad. He uses Our Lord’s name in vain but we just praise Him when we hear others to that. It does have some violence. Gun play and knife play. We both were edified by the experience. Really good acting for a shoestring budget.
