Iran threatens to respond to any US strikes as Biden weighs how to react to a base attack in Jordan

JERUSALEM (AP) — Iran threatened Wednesday to “decisively respond” to any U.S. attack on the Islamic Republic following President Joe Biden's linking of Tehran to the killing of three U.S. soldiers at a military base in Jordan.

The U.S. has signaled it is preparing for retaliatory strikes in the Mideast in the wake of the Sunday drone attack that also wounded at least 40 troops at Tower 22, a secretive base in northeastern Jordan that's been crucial to the American presence in neighboring Syria.

Any additional American strikes could further inflame a region already roiled by Israel's ongoing war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The war began with Hamas attacking Israel on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostage. Since then, Israel has killed more than 26,000 Palestinians and displaced nearly 2 million others from their homes, arousing anger throughout the Muslim world.

Violence has erupted across the Mideast, with Iran striking targets in Iraq, Pakistan and Syria, and the U.S. carrying out airstrikes targeting Yemen's Houthi rebels over their attacks shipping in the Red Sea. Some observers fear a new round of strikes targeting Iran could tip the region into a wider war.

A U.S. Navy destroyer in the waterway shot down an anti-ship cruise missile launched by the Houthis late Tuesday, the latest attack targeting American forces patrolling the key maritime trade route, officials said. The U.S. later launched a new round of airstrikes targeting the Houthis.

The Iranian warnings first came from Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's ambassador to the United Nations in New York. He gave a briefing to Iranian journalists late Tuesday, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

So they attack and kill 3 American soldiers and then threaten us if we respond.

Typical bully tactics. That makes us damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

If we don’t attack them, they will not stop. They’ll do it again anyways, because that is the nature of islam.

If we do respond and attack back, they threaten to attack us again, which we know is coming anyways even if we don’t attack them.

So for us, its a lose/lose situation so we might as well hit back. It’s not going to make things any worse for us.

Brandon will send them a stern letter and threaten to cancel their Netflix accounts.

Of course, Brandon would never actually cancel their Netflix accounts because that would be too harsh.

“Biden gave them billions of dollars.“

- on top of the billions that Barry-boy gave them..

WE are fully funding whatever Iran does to our soldiers and citizens.

The KGB/GRU PoV is unwelcome as always.

Iran, like Russia, is a thug-pariah. Nobody trusts them. Nobody likes them. They can only buy cooperation.

With their funds cutoff they’re done.

Sink their navy, bomb their oil terminals, blow up their pipelines, intercept their missile retaliation, blockade gulf of Aiden then let them wither on the vine for lack of supplies and funding.

Every one of Iran’s neighbors -including China, has missile defense and counter-strike contingencies to deal with Tehran’s missiles if they strike out. Tehran may find itself up against an instant coalition of allied nations -most of them Muslim.

Iran is an ally of Russia & China, neither of whom will leave Iran withering on the vine. On the contrary they will provide Iran with military assistance. While the US has oil and gas to sustain us in an emergency, most of Europe doesn’t and their economies would go into a severe depression if Mideast oil was cut off. While we need to retaliate against Iran, it would just be another neocon folly to start a full scale war with them.

Keep in mind Iran most likely already has agents embedded in the US that came up through our southern border and are ready to commit terrorism the moment we attack Iran. Biden has put us in a bad position.

“So for us, its a lose/lose situation so we might as well hit back.”

Agreed.

A Soleimani-style hit would be great retribution. Take out one of their high ranking generals who may be in Syria or Iraq right now.

IIRC, the Iranians were stunned when Trump took out Soleimani. They weren’t expecting anything like it.

well hard to say. Because of American satellites, spying on every almost everyone, every country worth it’s salt took all the good operations underground. So truthfully no one know what these countries really have.

I agree. They want to push Biden to react, and when he tries to ‘bluff’, they will close it. It will stay closed until he decides to ‘open it’, or if he doesn’t, Trump (or the threat of Trump) will.

Oh, I don’t know. Are there any Iranian gas pipelines Biden can blow up? He likes blowing up gas pipelines.

Boy, does he like blowing up pipelines!

I’ve never seen anyone that likes blowing up pipelines more than him.

No one also knows what weaponry, surveillance and intelligence assets the Russians will make available to Iran. There is absolutely no difference in Russia supplying everything we gave the Ukes to the Iranians. It was totally unprovoked when DC started the proxy world war against Russia. Now that American supplied arms have killed tens of thousands of Russians, it is NOT an unprovoked action on Russia’s part to supply weapons that will kill tens of thousands of Americans.

Look at it from the Russian side;all these nations are supplying weapons to the enemies of the Russian people. It not only raises feeling of patriotism in Russia(like it would in America, if Mexico were cooperating with a certain south American country to arm the cartels)(and this may very happen that Russia will start shipping many arms to the enemies of America) to wage war on our boarder. It would very fair if Russia did this because that is exactly what America is doing.

The Soleimani strike was one of the few baffling episodes from Trump's term in office.

When the story was initially reported I assumed Soleimani was in Iraq as part of some kind of military campaign. It turns out he was there as an invited guest of the Iraqi government, and just flew right into Baghdad Airport on a civilian aircraft. In that context, I never understood the rationale for taking him out the way they did.

Imagine Mexico’s new president, a Putin installed stooge, had just applied to become the Warsaw Pact’s 31st member (after numbers 29 and 30, France and Canada). Imagine Putin had come to Tijuana to scream about forced regime change in DC. Imagine the Russians just approved a half a trillion in military and economic aid for their goon in Mexico City. Imagine Warsaw Pact armored divisions sitting on the Rio Grande.
That’s the view from the Russian side. Of course, they attacked. Only a groveling Chamberlain would’ve waited for the final blows.
