NYPD cops will be forced to report on even their most minor interactions with the public after the City Council on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected Mayor Eric Adams’ veto of the “How Many Stops Act’’ — which he and other critics argued would threaten public safety.
Adams, who fought the bill tooth-and-nail in recent weeks, failed to sway the two councilmembers he needed to beat the override — which passed with a bruising 42-9 vote.
The Democrat-led council also voted to override Adams’ veto of another bill banning solitary confinement in Big Apple jails. “These bills will make New Yorkers less safe on the streets, while police officers are forced to fill out additional paperwork rather than focus on helping New Yorkers and strengthening community bonds,” Adams said in a statement after the vote.

NYC last November voted 89% Democrat. What are you gonna do? Some people just insist on making their lives extremely difficult.
My police force is pretty moderate about what reports officers have to write up. It takes them about an hour/day to write their reports. If I had to write a report about every interaction I might have, that could be three hours if all I was doing was checking boxes on each encounter.
It becomes unmanageable.
This is great news!! Great news because i have two nephews that were NYPD- until earlier this week when they handed in their resignations after getting the call from suburban towns who value the law and police. Let NYshitty continue to become the 3rd world craphole it wants to become!!!
Banning solitary confinement? Looks like the Prison Rape lobby carried the day.
If the police are smart they put in for OT writing these reports- make it unmanagable for NYshitty
It will tie the cops up in useless paperwork. Which is exactly what the lefties want.
The cops ought to get smart, retreat to their police stations, and refuse to protect any Democrat politician or ruling elite Democrat, then let the word get out.
Well, for what’s it’s worth, Adams was the “more conservative” option. He used to be NYPD.
So now they’ve incentivized cops to NOT interact during the course of their duties.
Of course, with some agencies this might be a good thing.
It by and large depends.
But the outcome will be more crime.
The reports will be worse than useless.
If Gothamites would vote for this, why does NYC have RCV...?
If a citizen says ‘Hi’ on the street, and blabs a little, does that have to go into the report?
Probably not, because the intention is only around when an officer has to enforce the law. This would probably include telling somebody to move along after you’ve heard why they are loitering.
But you never know. You can’t assume that there is a position too extreme for the left.
I forgot to ask about ordering donuts at a local shop.
That’s a public interaction.
The cops could simply strike and/or specifically NOT protect the members who voted for this bill.
More and more police seem to be reconsidering their career choice. The people of New York City know their Dem leaders persecute the officers and hang them out to dry in front of review boards and slimy lawyers are still suing police on behalf of guilty criminals. And continue with “snitches get stitches” so do not help police when interviewed.
Now threatening to make daily work a nightmare of record keeping.
Spray painted in several places on a pedestrian bridge at a park 5 miles from me: “Free Gaza” and “Kill Cops.”
NY Post 2023
New York’s Finest continue to bolt from the job at an alarming rate, according to new data obtained by The Post — and some cops worry the exodus will only get worse because the city plans to cancel the next five Police Academy classes, shrinking the nation’s largest police force to the smallest its been in decades.
The NYC City Council is certainly mostly libtard. Their main concerns are DEI, CRT, getting reparations for their lazy freeloading brethren, and lightening any sort of standards for any sort of qualifications. They likely more support defunding of police than making their jobs easier. I have just about zero respect for 99% of NYC City Council.
We have two Dem parties, in a sense, as if one weren’t enough. The more radical group is trying to take over. That’s what this is all about.
NY Dems, watch who you vote for. The radicals are wrecking the city for everyone. Don’t automatically vote for the Dem who gets on the ballot. Look into it. In fact look into it way before election day. Get involved.
