Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has made clear where House Republicans will draw the line on any agreement dealing with the border: allowing illegal crossings.
“Any border ‘shutdown’ authority that ALLOWS even one illegal crossing is a non-starter. Thousands each day is outrageous. The number must be ZERO,” Mr. Johnson wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Jan. 29.
The deal, whose text is set to be released this week, reportedly would permit the president to close ports of entry if illegal crossings reach a certain threshold.
One of the negotiators, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), announced on Jan. 28 that a proposal was almost ready.
“This bill could be ready to be on the floor of the United States Senate next week,” he said on CNN, “but it won’t be if Republicans decide that they want to keep this issue unsettled for political purposes.”
The White House called on Congress to give the president the ability to protect the border.
“Until recently, Mr. Johnson advocated for HR2 because, in his view, presidents needed new legal authorities in order to secure the border,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre wrote in a memo.

2 make the hiring of an illegal punishable by a million dollar fine for each illegal and incarceration of a minimum of 10 years
3. Those claiming asylum must go to the closest safe country and remain there while the visa process works its way through the system.
Anyone paying attention to the Ukraine funding it’s tied to? Why can’t it be a stand alone border bill?

shows he places our national sovereignty at the bottom of his list.
Along with fealty to the Constitution, protecting the sovereignty of this country should be a requisite for being president.
Because we're tired of sending our tax dollars to one of the most corrupt countries on the fact of the planet.
...so funding was tied to illegals crossing our borders.
If the Biden crime syndicate and the DNC want to continue laundering money through Ukraine then they're going to have to stop allowing illegals.
If they stop allowing illegals then it shuts down their effort to grow populations in Demon-crat Congressional districts to effect reapportionment and the axis of power down the road.

Apparently it’s illegal for the President of the United States to enforce the borders of the country. If only congress could pass a bill to make it legal we wouldn’t have all of these illegal border crossings (to say nothing of sanctuary cities...remember those?)

It’s preposterous that the White House claims the POTUS doesn’t have the authority to control the border. Even worse that the media repeat this claim.

Yes that was my thought as well. Perhaps he believes that if he demands 0 and the final compromise number is 3M then that represents some progress? :-)
I do welcome Johnson taking a strong line but politics these days is just a circus of bluster and show.
History is full of events that while appearing trivial are really the catalyst for major change. The Democrats wanting an open border and allowing millions of illegal into our nation may have seen a winning proposition for the Democrats.
However it may very well be the straw that breaks the Democrat’s back.
Only time will tell but if you are paying attention citizens around the world are waking up to the fact their leaders have sold them out by inviting millions from third world nations within their borders and immediately going on welfare.
I do not know a time in history where the ordinary citizen have been fed up with their government at the same time and for the same reason. Uncharted territory not sure how it will turn out.
Just stock the Rio Grand river with thousands of alligators. They’d definitely get fat feasting on the invaders. That would not be inhumane, just put up enter at own risk signs warming of the gators.
Re: #2 how do you propose to end the business LLC for illegals? They can easily skirt the citizen issue if they just open an LLC, get a tax id number and open a checking account. They get paid and pull that money out to send to their country, or spend here.
