Employees from a Ukrainian arms firm conspired with defense ministry officials to embezzle almost $40 million earmarked to buy 100,000 mortar shells for the war with Russia, Ukraine’s security service reported.

The SBU said late Saturday that five people have been charged, with one person detained while trying to cross the Ukrainian border. If found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison.

The investigation comes as Kyiv attempts to clamp down on corruption in a bid to speed up its membership in the European Union and NATO. Officials from both blocs have demanded widespread anti-graft reforms before Kyiv can join them.

Wake up and smell the coffee. During start of Afghan war national debt was a SMALL PERCENTAGE of what it is today. Now we are in debt to our eyeballs. Yuge difference. Of course Afghan war was also stupid, just like getting involved in Ukraine now.

All neocon wars starting with Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and so on cost us huge in blood & treasure, and what did United States gain from them? Zip, Zero, Nada. All we did is pile on more national debt. Ukraine will add another stick on the camel’s back.

“If you PING ME, then I assume I’m on your hit list, so I respond.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What I did was addressing an interesting subject of debate concerning Ukraine. I addressed it to those I know here on FR are usually either pro-actively for the liberation or Ukraine, or pro-actively for Ukraine’s failure to defend itself by letting it down.
Both “sides” got the same subject of debate from me. So it’s evidently not a “hit list” directed to only one side.

Secondly:

“90% of Ukraine Aid Returns To U.S. Companies, Says Ret. Admiral”

100% of Ukraine Aid NEVER makes it to the US Military.

Better to hand it out as Welfare as it doesn’t disappear overseas.

I prefer OUR MILITARY get those products, rather than burning them up in Ukraine.

“Take me off your ping list and I won’t ask if you Pedo.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Again, I wasn’t pining you. I directly addressed to you a subject of debate.

In return you insult people in the worst possible manner by calling them “pedo”.

And now you result to blackmailing people?? Saying that you’ll stop insulting me if I refrain from debating with you?
We both are the same thread. It’s normal to interact within a thread.

FR is made for debate. If you can’t handle debate and can’t be polite. Why are you on FR?

He is not one of the ones charged. And the fact that Ukraine caught them and is prosecuting them indicates that they aren’t as corrupt as some have claimed. Plus they recovered the funds.

Not like Russia is corruption free.

I’m shocked! You mean tossing tons of money to a known corrupt nation, resulted in corruption? Wow! I think tossing it more money to solve this problem is the answer!

If the information in comment #18is correct, then: “Ukraine’s prosecutor general says that the funds have since been seized and will be returned to the country’s defense budget.”

It takes a while to change bad habits. I wonder if Putin is making anywhere near as many efforts to end corruption as is Ukraine?

I seriously doubt that the comment it helps all American industries and workers. Only those involved in the MIC production line process and supply. Were the money invested in other areas here, it would reach a broader class of industry and workers.
