Employees from a Ukrainian arms firm conspired with defense ministry officials to embezzle almost $40 million earmarked to buy 100,000 mortar shells for the war with Russia, Ukraine’s security service reported.
The SBU said late Saturday that five people have been charged, with one person detained while trying to cross the Ukrainian border. If found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison.
The investigation comes as Kyiv attempts to clamp down on corruption in a bid to speed up its membership in the European Union and NATO. Officials from both blocs have demanded widespread anti-graft reforms before Kyiv can join them.

Isn’t this whole situation madly ironic?
America spent Two Thousand Billions on Afghanistan alone, a muslim country... and neither Republicans nor Democrats complained much about it for nearly two decades of war there. We lost thousands of men and women.
We have always fought to protect Muslims against other Muslims. We have also always fought and paid billions and billions to protect Asian people against other Asian people.
As we speak, we are paying billions in war preparations to protect Taiwan against China.
In all these Muslim and Asian wars and decade-long political conflicts, a smaller percentage of those billions of US dollars spent there has unfortunately and inevitably been wasted on corruption - this concerns both foreign and homegrown entities. Weirdly, we complained little about that.
BUT!! When it comes to Ukraine... which is composed of exclusively white and deeply Christian people having Viking ancestors - well a minority of Freepers seem to be heavily complaining about them and harassing them about absolutely everything, on a level never seen before...
Are those Freepers against Ukrainians because they happen to be white, heavily Christian, and historically well known to be the most anti-communist people ever known?
Is that the reason why those few minority of Freepers are so anti-Ukraine?
Indeed, because those Freepers say nothing about the billions of US dollars being spent for Asia and everywhere else on the planet...

Thus, I start to wonder... if those very few Freepers here on FR are even conservatives and/or patriots at all?

As to your claim, guess where the VAST MAJORITY of our foreign aid has been going to for the past 2 years - yep, UKRAINE. So it is PERFECTLY VALID to complain about it, just as it would be perfect valid to complain about it if $100 Billion plus were going to Russia, or China, or Israel, instead of Ukraine.
