Apple is undoubtedly one of the largest tech companies in the world. And with almost 37,000 of its 161,000 total employees working in California and its headquarters based in Silicon Valley, the tech giant had long been synonymous with the Golden State.
However, Apple recently announced that an entire division based in San Diego will be shut down in April 2024. For those working there, they have two options: move to Austin, Texas, or be let go.

And likely 30,000+ new blue voters in Texas.
Just what Texas needs....
??
What are you using, now?
Texas Instruments HQ is in Dallas, I think.
I really do agree. I think they should go down with the ship.
I left ‘Fornica for Idaho over 12 years ago, but I kinda woulda liked to dynamite the road behind me.
Austin is a very expensive place for housing.
Not to mention one of the most liberal places in the state of Texas.
Team Biden has unpleasant people just south of the Rio Grande.
They’ll be coming up I-35 soon.
You’re right... my error
I agree. My company cell was an Iphone and my graphics computer was an Apple. I found them cumbersome and hard to navigate. Fortunately my main work terminal was a simple Windows unit.
It’s a tough choice. While San Diego is nowhere as nice as it was when my grandfather lived there, parts of it are still nice - not where my grandfather lived, but my cousin has a nice place. Moving to the middle of Texas, far away from the beach and mountains and the Mediterranean climate vs lower taxes, but a lower topography and Texas climate, could be enough to make these employees go postal.
Fortunately, California discourages gun ownership.
News flash: It was over in 2020. We’re not voting our way out of this. We need Donald Trump but these problems go beyond what he can do in four years if they don’t kill him first.
You haven’t seen the landscape around Austin, obviously. It is in the edge of the Texas Hill country and is actually quite lovely. But ruined by the people who live in Austin
Yes. My son works for them there.
I have no idea what that has to do with making Cali libs unwelcome-even in blue Austin. The mojados you are referring to are a different matter-I 35 is over 50 miles from here-they don’t come to rural areas like this one-we do not hire illegals to work-only local people we know, we don’t provide food, shelter or anything else to strangers who are not tourists with money to spend-and people have la migra on speed dial. The population is about 50% Hispanic who do speak Spanish as a 2nd language. If the mojados get as far as Austin, i’m sure the wealthy liberals will behave just like the ones in Martha’s Vineyard did—nimbys one and all...
Texas isn’t all desert like they show in movies-i live in the western part of the hill country in a rural area-it is colder in Winter, cooler in Summer. But we don’t want any cali libs here anyway, so yes-it is a terrible place-the scorpions can saw through doors to get in, and the coyotes and mountain lions hunt humans who are in the woods after dusk...
Texas Should Bar Apple from operating there- citing that they are “A Danger to the Republic”
Yes, they did ruin it-When I was in college, we used to drive to Austin from home in near-West Texas on a Saturday, just to go to Hippie Hollow/Barton Springs to see the mostly-naked people smoking weed and sunning by the creek-we’d drink beer with them, maybe smoke some weed, find a neat place to get some barbecue ribs, go home. It was a cool, weird place, but it has been ruined for years-I won’t even go there to see friends any more...
Oh, no…we do NOT want any more Californians here.
30k houses going on the market?
