A proposed high-speed passenger train between Las Vegas and Southern California got another boost on Tuesday with Biden administration approval to issue $2.5 billion in tax-exempt bonds for the $12 billion project.
The announcement benefiting the Brightline West project followed a $3 billion U.S. Department of Transportation grant in December and government authorization in 2020 for the company to sell $1 billion in similar bonds.

The 218-mile (351-kilometer) Brightline West project aims to whisk passengers at 186 mph (300 kph) or more in electric trains on new tracks along the Interstate 15 corridor

No date has been announced for work to start, but officials have said it might be operational by the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
“Train leaving on Track 5, for Victor Valley, Hesperia and Rancho Cuc-amonga‼”Couldn’t help but think of Mel Blanc and his station announcer routine on The Jack Benny Show when I looked up the current westernmost station being planned to be at Rancho Cucamonga, 44 miles from LA. (No service to Anaheim or Azusa.)
If it is all that important to get from one foul pit of Depravity to another foul pit of depravity really quickly, why not take a plane?
LMAO Its never going to be built money laudry scam
Vegas wants to be an entertainment destination. More than just casinos. The dream is to get people on an afternoon train, get them to town for dinner and a show, and then home all without even needing a hotel room. It won’t happen though because the closer you get to the points the more expensive it is to build. You won’t see downtown LA or Anaheim to the Vegas strip direct. You’ll have to get transport to the edge of the desert, hop on the train, and maybe get dropped off near the Vegas airport. Then transport into Vegas or the strip area (which is actually not in Las Vegas city).
The further you want to build into either city the more expensive as you have to buy out and relocate a densely populated area. Though the strip does have that monorail. It needs an upgrade. So cal does have commuter trains but they are slow and make a lot of stops. To get to the fast train you’ll need a car to catch the slow train and the slow train to connect to the desert depot. It may not be as convenient as they hope considering it’s a 4 hour drive or 45 minute flight without any bother (other than TSA checkpoints).
Why of course not. The "high speed rail" between SF and LA will never be completed and operating as originally advertised to voters . That's an easy one.
This one is being privately funded I think by the same people who build the train in Forida. Since it’s private they do have the incentive to get it done and make money from it. Or at least try. CA speed train was just a boondoggle transferring taxpayer cash to land barons and developers.
Suckers.

Have you ever been in Las Vegas?
There is a lot more to it than gambling.
If you are a simpleton as most people are, it,
is an adult Disneyland like the
one when we were kids,( before Disney became a “Woke” corp) Vegas is almost overwhelming.
I just drive through Las Vegas.
I’m a piss poor gambler, because I don’t like losing hard earned money.
Yes. The train LA to Vegas makes some sense - there are lots of Angelinos going to gamble in Vegas. Most of them just hit the slots and never venture anywhere. They will get drunk and may prefer train to driving!
But, if they allowed gambling in LA, the train would instantly loose all merit!
So I am not happy I will have to subsidize other people gambling habits!
Brightline gets things done so I expect this LA to Las Vegas HSR route will be up and running long before California HSR ever carries a single passenger. And CAHSR has been under construction since 2008.
They are going to move the Air Port 21 miles that way out of Vegas.
That's hillarious.
WHY THE HELL AM I PAYING FOR THIS! Let the market decide. If the casinos thought it would bring in money, they would fund it.
No matter the cost to transport brawling negroes to LV.
I’ve been to Las Vegas. Lots to do on the strip.
One block off the strip and you can die.
If you go to most mass transit projects, outside of a few peak commute hours, they are mostly empty of paying riders. That means that the transit agency has a dilemma. If they charge each paying rider the true cost of the system (like paying off the bonds plus the maintenance costs and reserves for future capital replacements) the price will be so high that it discourages ridership. The social do-gooders then lower the price to the point that it will require a perpetual subsidy. That is bad public policy and the initial grants create a perpetual need for more grants.
Will it ever be built? Is it just another way for Pelosi family to get richer?
Well, you can expect the crime rate in Vegas to go way up.
Why not? The CAHSR project is doing SO, SO well, isn’t it?
for bums and invaders
