It’s late, so I can safely say you’ve just made today’s stupidest comment.
Congratulations!
That was a fun flick.
I seriously can’t tell what is real anymore. I want to wake up…
Not to mention cosmic rays and solar ejections.
Can anyone tell me why the latest technological development seems to typically be advertised? To alarm the Chicoms and Putin and Iran accelerate their tech and develop counter measures, and thus require the arms industry to develop counter measures....?
MASER weapon was used to kill Godzilla, so yeah!
Good one... That and Directive 10-289.
"The United States has actively pursued the development of hypersonic weapons—maneuvering weapons that fly at speeds of at least Mach 5—as a part of its conventional prompt global strike program since the early 2000s."
US spent billions on a 24 hour flying 747 with a laser nose cone. It was retired, did not work. Remember that?
Will your 401K assure your salvation and ascension to heaven?
If not, can I have it?
Maybe these weapons can buy us some time against our many enemies until a POTUS like Trump 47 can right the ship.
You can narrowly focus optical weapons on the target. Can you do the same with microwave energy? What happens to friendly aircraft behind or above the target? Do they become friendly fire casualties? How do you make sure there are no friendlies behind the targets?
But is it powered by wind or solar?
So was Jerry Pournelle (SF writer). He helped start the policy eval that led to THAAD antiballistic missile system.
And then there is Arthur C Clarke, the father of the communication satellites and even geosynchronous satellites.
Quite a few SF writers have been serious players in starting r&d projects or were true scientists/engineers.
The Russian hypersonic weapon, it seems, is an ICBM fired from an aircraft. It can go fast but it can’t really maneuver aerodynamically. Its a ballistic missile.
It’s a big sky. Also radar and battle management systems. In other words, for the Navy, Aegis.
And who were the designers? Hopefully a bare minimum of 50 year old white guys.
On a Navy ship, diesel, burned in a gas turbine engine.
Can anyone tell me why the latest technological development seems to typically be advertised?
I think the intended audience is closer to home. The Chinese and
russians know exactly what the capabilities are - due to spying as well as open source research.
Re-assurance - to keep the population complacent and keep the game going just a little longer.
Raytheon's been at it since 1947...
