These 'teachers' are killing our kids in front of our eyes.
Admissions policies and grades have lost credibility. That is the whole reason for tests like ACT/SAT to measure against a standard. Even ACT/SAT have been tainted to further an agenda. I work for a company that performs work for the DoD. When we bid a contract, the DoD puts certification requirements on the persons assigned to perform specific kinds of tasks. The cybersecurity oriented tasks must meet the government 8570 baseline certifications. The Army Corps of Engineers recruited me to fix a problem in their network assessment software. I had to pass the Security+ CE exams to get my logins/certs to access the network to do the work. My 40 year record of success prompted the recruitment, but the cert requirement remained.
To be fair, not all students fall into the category of uneducated dopes. The problem is the percentage of those who do is frightening. Worse, it is increasing which means those who cannot do anything useful are riding on the backs of those who can and do. IOW, When the ocean over runs the gunnels of the boats upon it, the fleet goes down. So, what does our country do about it. They open the flood gates and import another horde of takers.
I fear I am living in a mad house.
Teachers can’t teach because they do not know how to speak coherently, write legible and grammatically correct sentences, or perform basic math functions. And they are graduating students who operate at the same or a lower level.
Now Democrats want to lower the standards for entering the teaching profession even further. What could possible go wrong?
It possible because "advanced placement" courses weight grades: A:5, B:4, C:3, D:2. Ordinary classes are weighted: A:4, B:3, C:2, D:1. My son finished with a 4.33 due to AP classes. His girlfriend, the class valedictorian, had a 4.86 GPA.
Thanks for the info, I still think that is ridiculous. You should just be happy to get college credit for AP classes. I wonder when this started, I didn’t take AP classes but got dual credit from the community college during my senior year of high school, the grades did not weigh differently.
“...a lobotomy is far cheaper than “higher” education and you come out smarter.”
Well, calmer, at least.

Yes, they truly are. Just look at the nazis or the Soviets.

ALL of this is another facet of “PARTICIPATION TROPHIES”
YOUR LITTLE DARLINGS ARE RAISED TO BELIEVE THAT “THEIR FEELINGS & SELF ESTEEM” COUNT OVER ANYTHING & EVERYTHING ELSE.
I GUARANTEE YOU EMPLOYER IS NOT HANDING OUT PAYCHECKS AS A “PARTICIPATION TROPHY”.
SOME TEACHERS WILL HAND THAT OUT IF THE STUDENT DOES EXTRA PROJECTS and does so in a superior manner.
I think grade inflation began about the time colleges started having student evaluations of professors. Professors who graded hard got lower evaluations from students. If you were not tenured then your job might be at risk for having low scores on the evaluations. I think this became widespread about the end of the 1960s.
That's part of it. But also, if a teacher gives an F, the student can cry racism, sexism, favortism, bias, sexual harassment, whatever. They might possibly sue. At the very least, they can create a major headache.
It's way easier to affirm and celebrate everyone.
Standardized tests keep teachers honest. Their passing virtually every student, even those who rarely if ever attended class, is shown up by standardized tests. And teachers are highly pressured by administrators to do just that. Standardized tests are a pain in the behind, but they are necessary. The disparity in standardized test results between white students and minority students I feel is at least partly a factor of parenting. White parents, in my teaching experience, were more likely to make sure their kids were doing their homework and to know, at least roughly, what that homework is about, maybe even help them with it. A lot of minority parents never bothered to meet with me during Open School Night or Open School Day. Sometimes they’d send a grandmother or even a sibling, if anyone at all showed up. They didn’t even know if their student was IN school, let alone how they were doing.
American public education has been a joke since integration... Sorry, its not PC but its true.
Black students came to integrated schools so far behind that rather than fail them they dumbed down everyone to move them along.
NO, it wasn’t he black children’s fault, they were given a lousy education up to that point... they had no chance to be on par with their peers when they integrated, but rather than working to lift those students up, they lowered expectations and have been doing so every since.
More and more minority kids are getting diplomas they can’t even read.
The kids coming out of HS and college are the dumbest I’ve ever seen.
The phrase “the blind leading the blind” comes to mind.
A teacher CANNOT effectively teach what she does not know herself.
We need a requirement that prospective teachers score proficient or above on the 12th grade test before ADMISSION to being an education major.
And score to a more rigorous standard by graduating in order to get a certificate.
