The 70s was the era of rock gods walking the earth. Before the studios figured out what makes a “hit” and killed everything.
Jann Wenner’s HOF is a joke. His hatred of metal and prog have kept a lot of great bands out.
There should be commercial rock now. But the studios are idiots. There’s actually great rock happening all over, but they can’t get good contracts or radio play.
It’s not just prog or metal that has been ignored. Three Dog Night (say what you will) probably sold more records than 20 of their “influential or instrumental” acts combined that they’ve put in over the years.

The fact it took almost 25 years for the Moody Blues to be inducted into the R&R HOF is testament to your post. Donna Summer was inducted into the R&R HOF almost a half dozen years before the Moody Blues- think about that....
