Reports are that the Ron DeSantis campaign is telling donors he has a shot at winning delegates in next month’s caucuses in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

However, what the campaign’s plan is to do that remains unclear at this writing.

Spokesman Andrew Romeo didn’t respond to a couple of our inquiries regarding how Team DeSantis intends to tackle the Feb. 8 plebiscite.

Meanwhile, VI Republicans say there has been no communication between the DeSantis operation and local officials, in contrast to the Trump and Haley operations, which have plans for VI events the day after the New Hampshire Primary (an event before which the Governor has downsized his operation.

“Nobody in the Virgin Islands has heard from DeSantisworld or Never Back Down since before Iowa.

Oh for goodness sakes!! I admire Ron and would support him in the future. But it’s time to dump the coffee pot on the fire and ride on. Drop out today, endorse Trump and campaign for him.

Spend a winter month in the US Virgin Islands spending donors cash. Sounds like a plan to me.

Yeah, I may rethink my decision not to volunteer for his campaign. :-)

Jeb did the same thing.
When is Ron going to realize his advisers are lying to him?
Ron, you are NOT ever going to be President.
Go back to what you are good at. Fixing Florida.

"Drop out today, endorse Trump and campaign for him."

He's not quitting because he made sure he continued to get a taxpayer-funded paycheck while gallivanting around the country. If he'd had to resign to run, instead of having the law changed so he didn't have to resign, he'd have already dropped out. He's been on a paid vacation for 8 months. He and Charlie Crist are the only two Governors who had the law changed so they could run for a higher office. Crist changed it when he thought he'd be McCain's V.P. When Rick Scott succeeded Crist, he had the law changed back to its original state. In my book, any politician from either party that uses their majority in the State Legislature to benefit themselves monetarily and politically, is a self-serving prig.

And DeSantis has the nerve to claim President Trump is self-serving?.

Meatball wants to take another free trip to the Virgin Islands. Seems pretty clear

He really has become just an embarrassment. I would never vote for this knucklehead. The only reason he is a “good Governor” is because he has a legislature that does the work and all he does is sign it.

He beat a drug addict gay clown the first time and needed Trump to do it. The second time he beat Charlie Freakin Crist. Gee, who is surprised? RATs stayed home. Probably a set up to let Meatball win in order to get rid of Trump.

My feeling exactly. I just hope he's not in a position to know something I don't know.

There are questions about his strategy overall. He’s spent too much time listening to loser consultants. He needs to take a sharper, tougher approach. Go scorched earth. That’s his best hope.

I think Ron’s withdrawal is days away at this point.

He canceled his Meet The Press appearance that was scheduled for today.

He has suspended all advertising nation-wide.

His schedule is totally empty as far as I can find.

If I had to guess he will announce his withdrawal on Tuesday night as New Hampshire primary returns are coming in...

You do realize DeSantis has spent in the neighborhood of $300 million dollars nationwide, $50 million in New Hampshire alone.

https://www.npr.org/2024/01/12/1224348004/advertising-campaign-republican-presidential-primary

What has he gotten for that money?

—The worst second place finish in the history of the Iowa caucus
—Single digit poll numbers in NH. We will know on Tuesday if those numbers are correct.
—Single digit poll numbers in SC.
—Single digit poll numbers in TX.
—Single digit poll numbers in CA.

This is a five second strategy meeting. Everybody votes “withdraw” and the meeting ends.

That was my first thought when he announced. It’s still my first thought. This is stupid, already, and was stupid from the getgo. Trump rightly pointed out that he was being disloyal to a man who had helped him greatly, and that dog won’t hunt with MAGA deplorables.

To have an effective campaign, Trump must have opposition to play off of. De Santis is that primary opposition.

Of course, the Trump super loyalists can’t contain their self generated animosity toward anything that appears to oppose their very narrow view. Thus it is that super conservatives attempt to destroy the extremely successful Republican governor who might just be the most conservative of all the candidates.

De Santis is the Republican bench.

Ron is running against a man who’s approaching 80.
