The weeklong Arctic cold that's blanketed much of the nation has taken 59 lives, officials said, as more than 100 million people in the United States are under winter weather alerts Friday.

Wind chill alerts Friday afternoon stretched from Montana to Florida and freeze alerts remained in effect across the South and Gulf Coast.

Temperatures Friday night and early Saturday in traditional hot spots such as Shreveport, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; Birmingham, Alabama; and Atlanta are set to dip into the low 20s or teens.

Wind chill alerts Friday afternoon stretched from Montana to Florida and freeze alerts remained in effect across the South and Gulf Coast.

Of the 59 cold-related deaths since last Friday, 19 happened in Tennessee, nine in Oregon, six in Illinois and Mississippi, five in Washington state and Kentucky, three in New York state, two in Louisiana and one each in Arkansas, Wisconsin, Wyoming and New Hampshire, local and state officials have told NBC News.

“It happens every year”

I think it was the winter of ‘70-’71 when my ex and I (and our cat) got stuck in Punxsutawney after the car went off the road in a blizzard and a trucker picked us up. We spent two nights sleeping on the floor of some motel there.

A similar thing happened to my sister and her husband traveling between Syracuse and Cleveland. Three months later, they moved to Florida.

The old folks told me that it would get so cold here (Lousisana) that the trees would burst. That must have been in the 20s and 30s.

Minden, Louisiana, was -16 for a day or two in 1899. That is what driving SUVs and cow farts will get you.

All because of the mythical condition of “Climate Change” - formerly known as “Globull Warming” - but that didn’t work so they had to “generalize” it so it could be misinterpreted any way they need.

I am 80 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. We have had our plants covered for a week. That is rare. Last week we got down to the mid teens at night. Next week it will get up in to the 60’s and rain everyday. Winter in southeast Texas

Periods of extreme cold and snow are to be expected in the Midwest and Plains regions of the US. January and February is when we get it. Blizzards are not uncommon.

According to the “experts” average weather is due to “climate change” as well!

They are like wife beaters—it is always her fault.

I live in MN. You never EVER read stories like this about the cold snaps when WE get them.

The funny thing is that it’s just as hard on us as it is for north-easterners (or even southerners). Nothing works like it’s supposed to. That’s the way it works when it gets brutally cold.

But the scare-mongers in the media always point to everyone else. It sells more of their agenda.

1970 the Coming Ice Age scam began.
1977 a brutal January winter proved THE COMING ICE AGE was upon us!
2023 A VERY MILD summer here “proved” GLO-BULL WARMING!
2024, A brutal January “proved” GLO-BULL WARMING!

Set back a week or two. The weather forecast will change.

I bet the news media is wishing all us oldsters who remember weather clear back to the 1950s would die off so as not to upset their current “forecasts”.

Last year we left 50 degree March weather in Omaha to go to Prescott AZ and get 8” of snow. The Airbnb we stayed with got a snow shovel so I could shovel a path to our vehicle because we didn’t have snow boots. Luckily our rental was a 4x4 SUV.

There was a stretch in the early 2000s where a friend and I golfed in January and February for 3-4 years in a row and that was due to global warming. Now its January and -10 below and that’s caused by global warming.

“Of the 59 cold-related deaths since last Friday...”

Meanwhile, 60 people died last spring when mild, 70 degree weather blanketed the eastern part of the US. The spring vortex caught the dead people unaware and unprepared, with 10 dying from falling off ladders while cleaning rain gutters. Two more died from excessive excitation playing the slots at Gitchee-Gummy casino, and an early season golfer met The Lord after succumbing to an alligator roll at a Florida golf course.
