ARepublican running for Congress in North Carolina previously compared deporting illegal immigrants to Nazi Germany, and said he was "not opposed" to fast-tracking citizenship for recipients of Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals (DACA), also known as "Dreamers."
Pat Harrigan, a candidate running to represent North Carolina's 10th Congressional District, made the comments in an Oct. 2022 interview with WFAE 90.7, a public radio station that services the Charlotte area, while a congressional candidate in a different district ahead of the midterm elections.
"There has to be a pathway to citizenship. Look, from my perspective, you look at countries that have rounded up and exported people from their country. It's a list of countries that we don't want to be involved with. It's Russia. It's North Korea. It's China. It is Nazi Germany," he said when asked about a "pathway to citizenship" for individuals in the U.S. illegally.
"This horse has left the stables on this topic. And the vast, vast majority of immigrants that have come to this country are here because they're trying to build a better life for themselves and for their families," he said.
The interviewer then asked Harrigan about "Dreamers," those brought to the U.S. as children of illegal immigrants, and whether there should be a process for them to gain citizenship more quickly.
"I think we need to look at exactly how we do that, but I'm not opposed to it. I do think it’s incredibly important that we have to gain control of the southern border and gain control of our immigration system first, prior to allowing any type of assimilation program on a widespread basis. Critically important that we do that one-two step," he responded.

He's a Republican that John McCain, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan would enthusiastically get behind.
“There has to be a pathway to citizenship.”
There already is one, you idiot.

Let me make one point - if a child is brought here and raised in America - Taxpayers have invested $120K in his education. Send him somewhere else and that $120K is gone.
If he meets criteria like graduation, no criminal arrests, etc we should give him a long-term process that does not include sponsoring anyone else.
If they came here illegally they all need to leave no exceptions.
“ Let me make one point - if a child is brought here and raised in America - Taxpayers have invested $120K in his education…”
Allow me to retort:
The kid stole $120,000 from American taxpayers and should not be rewarded for it. Then add whatever amount the parents stole and bill the country they came from for every nickel.

“Taxpayers have invested $120K in his education. Send him somewhere else and that $120K is gone”
I’ve known plenty of well-educated, low-income people.
We have college graduates that Biden thinks can’t repay their student loans.
If you don’t have a government license or certificate, you are generally low income in Florida.
My neighbor with a roofing license makes about $1 million/year.
“that $120K is gone”
We have people with such education handing out coffee and hamburgers at McDonald’s.
AFAIK, DACA is still a ‘policy’ leftover from Obama’s regime. It has no basis in statute that has been enacted. Put simply, it is illegal, IMO.
You want a pathway for so-called DACA’s? Then pass a law to enact it. But if you vote for it, don’t expect a vote from me.
gross or net?
““There has to be a pathway to citizenship.”
People who came by any other means than by the standard process should never be able to get citizenship.
“Congress shall have power to...establish an uniform rule of naturalization”
All the amnesties were unconstitutional.
“gross or net?”
1040 taxed income
“ People who came by any other means than by the standard process should never be able to get citizenship.”
Agreed. We have a “pathway to citizenship” and I know several people who took it. It cost them thousands of dollars and took years to do. Rewarding people who broke the law is insane and cannot be allowed.

In 1986 there was a one-time amnesty.
A solemn promise was made to the American people that there would not be more amnesties.
[There were six more, but within a few years afterward.]
Define child. When you reward something, you get more of it. We have millions of unaccompanied minors entering the country illegally. You should get better informed about DACA regulations, which are unconstitutional.
We have been fed this “Dreamer” propaganda since 2006.
thanks ... how many crews does he run?
I couldn’t have said it better, thank you for your viewpoint.
Another GOOB who needs his ass kicked at the polls.
Happy to be of service.

“There has to be a pathway to citizenship.“
No, there does not. Fix your own country.
“This is a twist on Oliver Hazard Perry’s words after a naval battle: “We have met the enemy, and they are ours.” The updated version was first used in the comic strip “Pogo,” by Walt Kelly, in the 1960s and referred to the turmoil caused by the Vietnam War.”
